2021-22/ TODD CLAPPER (17TH SEASON) & PETRA PARDI (INTERIM HC)/14-11 OVERALL/2-4 MPSF
The newcomers and seniors shined in 2022 for Sun Devil Water Polo, as Vanda Baksa led the pack as just a freshman. In a conference full of Olympians, Baksa was out playing them nearly all season. Baksa secured the program's freshman single-season goal (73), assist (49), and point record (122). Her 122 points being just one point shy of the program's single-season point record. The six-time MPSF Newcomer of the Week picked up these honors over the final eight weeks of the season during her 17 game scoring streak to close out the year. Her impressive MPSF-leading goals, assists, and points during the regular season was more than enough for the rookie to pick up ASU's first-ever MPSF major annual award winner in Newcomer of the Year, as voted on by the coaches. In the regular season, the Sun Devils had four players lead the MPSF top-8 in field blocks, with Lara Kiss (23) and Vanda Baksa (21) in first and second place, respectively. Arizona State is the only team with four players in this category after Amira Van Buren and Bori Kekesi each notched 11 field goals to tie for eighth on the list. The Sun Devils were notably a defense-heavy team with four more players on the MPSF top-10 list for regular season steals. Lara Kiss's 37 steals led the conference and were one more than 2020 Olympian Maddie Musselman. Vanda Baksa's 35 steals were enough for third place above her two teammates, Bori Kekesi and Blaire McDowell who tied for fourth place with 29 steals each. ASU again was the only school with four players in the top-10 of this category as well. Among the 14 win season were two notable wins with the 22-5 win over Salem being the 4th most goals scored in a game in program history, and the most goals scored by the Sun Devils since 2011. The 19-10 win over California State East Bay was the seventh most points scored in program history. Petra Pardi was named interim head coach before the final three games of the season, and the Sun Devils put on a show. The first contest after the change was No. 2 UCLA on the road, where the Sun Devils almost pulled off the upset in Los Angeles after taking the Bruins to OT after holding them to just one goal in the opening frame. The following week the Sun Devils hosted No. 1 USC, and matched their energy until the final whistle. Baksa recorded her 10th straight hat trick in the game in the loss, after the early surge from the Trojans ended up as the difference in the competition. The final weekend concluded with a senior-fueled win against the conference foe Indiana. The Sun Devils have not lost to the Hoosiers since 2005. The team did not compete in the 2022 MPSF Championship Tournament after COVID within the team forced them to pull out last minute.
MPSF Newcomer of the Year: Vanda Baksa, first-ever major conference honor for ASU.

2020-21/TODD CLAPPER/16TH YEAR/14-12 OVERALL/6-6 IN MPSF (NCAA 3rd place)
Water polo made its third appearance in the NCAA Championship after ending the regular season 13-11. ASU beat the Michigan in the first round to advance to the final four, but eventually lost to the Championship squad, USC although ASU held the Trojans to their lowest scoring outing of the Tournament. Among those 13 wins were top-five upsets that will go down as some of the top wins at Mona Plummer. The Sun Devils upset No. 2 Stanford at home to open up MPSF play with a 10-9 win, and again against No. 2 UCLA at home with an 8-6 victory just a month later. This was the first time since 2014 that the Sun Devils had more than one upset of a top-five team in a single season. The Sun Devils clinched that at large bid because of their strong Mountain Pacific Sport Federation conference play, including upsetting fifth-seeded Cal at home in the MSPF Championship, and ultimately finishing fourth in the conference. Bente Rogge, Amira Van Buren, Luca Petovary and Chelsea Karimazondo all earned ACWPCC All-American honors.

The 2020 came to a close earlier than expected, but the No. 6 Sun Devil women's water polo team proved there's a lot to be optimistic about when they return to the pool next season. The Sun Devils finished the shortened season with a 12-5 record (1-1 MPSF), coming just two wins short of matching their total number of wins for the entire 2019 season. ASU defeated nine ranked opponents and the team posted a dominant 6-1 record at home. With a wealth of new talent coming in for the 2020 season -- including six freshmen and one transfer -- the young Sun Devil team got off to a hot start, opening the year with two wins at home against Ottawa University of Arizona. The team broke a school record, scoring 20 goals in the season opener, and tied for third-most goals in a home game. Following the team's third place finish at the 16-team UCSD Triton Invitational, which included upsets over No.5 UC Irvine and No. 7 UC San Diego, the Sun Devils swept the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation weekly honors with Borbala Kekesi named Player of the Week and Eszter Kiss named Newcomer of the Week.
