This Week The Arizona State swimming and diving teams hit the water at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center this weekend against visiting Stanford (No.1 men, No. 8 women) and California (No.4 men, No. 7 women). On Friday, January 21, the men's meet against Stanford begins at 12 p.m. MT while the women's meet starts at 2 p.m. MT. The meet with Cal will be held on Saturday, January 22 at 12 p.m. MT for both teams.

Eleven Swimmers' Times in NCAA Top Twenty Through four meets for the men and six for the women in the swimming and diving season, 11 ASU swimmers have recorded times in the NCAA top twenty for the 2004-2005 campaign. Senior All-American Florencia Szigeti leads the way with three of her times being among the nation's best, including a tenth best of 49.45 in the 100 freestyle. She also claims top-fifteen times in both the 50 and 200 freestyle (15th, 50 free, 22.96, 15th, 200 free, 1:47.63). Freshman Caitlin Andrew climbed into the top-ten in the 100 butterfly, claiming the nation's seventh fastest time at 54.07. Others in the national top twenty are senior Jeff Barrett (12th, 200 free, 1:36.62, 18th, 100 free, 44.33), junior Leo Martins (16th, 200 breast, 2:00.06), junior All-American David Kolozar (17th, 200 fly, 1:47.80), senior Emerson Ward (17th, 100 breast, 55.00), sophomore Christine Creek (17th, 200 breast, 2:15.67), junior Laura Ullrich (17th, 100 fly, 54.87), junior Heidi Schmidt (18th, 100 breast, 1:02.82), senior Agnes Kovacs (18th, 200 breast, 2:16.13) and junior Joey Clements (18th, 200 breast, 2:00.66).
ASU vs. Stanford The Sun Devil men host Stanford having last beat the Cardinal in the 1990-91 season by a score of 124-119. Last season's result at Stanford went to No. 2 Stanford 127-107. ASU's women don't have a win in the series against the Cardinal in that same time period. Last year's matchup went to No. 4 Stanford 169.5-125.5.
ASU vs. California The Sun Devil men have not beaten the Golden Bears since the 1990-91 season and Cal holds an overall advantage of 20-4 in the series. Last year, ASU fell 166-128 at Berkeley. ASU's women are 10-11-1 in the overall series but haven't been victorious in the matchup since the 1996-97 campaign, when they won their fourth straight over the Bears. Last year's score was 185-110 in favor of Cal.
ASU, Last Time in the Pool The Arizona State University men's swimming and diving team was last in the pool January 14-15, 2005 at the Dallas Morning News Classic held in Dallas, Texas. The men's team sent eight swimmers (Lucas Azevedo, Jeff Barrett, Bobby Crowder, Richie Crowder, Pat Fleming, CJ Nuess, David Kolozar, Emerson Ward) and one diver (Brant Bingham) to compete, finishing fourth overall. Highlights of the weekend include a first-place finish by Kolozar in the 200 butterfly and a third-place finish in the 100 butterfly. Nuess took three third-place honors in the 400 IM, 200 IM and 200 breaststroke. Barrett took second-place in the 200 freestyle and third in the 100 free. Ward was barely edged out of first-place in the 100 breaststroke, finishing second overall. Richie Crowder swam into third-place for the Sun Devils in the 50 freestyle event.
Breaking Records Junior All-American Joona Puhakka set his fourth school-record in the 3-meter springboard event with a score of 398.32 against USC on November 20. Puhakka has set or broke a school-record in each of his three seasons as a Sun Devil.
