Sun Devil Women's Tennis and head coach Jamea Jackson announced the hiring of Erik Kortland on Aug. 5, 2024 as associate head coach. In 2022, Kortland founded the RKT3 Group to help promote an innovative approach to the tennis industry and joined the player services and sports marketing team on Yonex USA to help recruit and take care of US Juniors. Within this position, he also consulted for player development for Adidas USA Tennis. Prior to founding RKT3 Group, he left the USTA in 2021 and joined the Tecnifibre/Lacoste performance team as part of their sports marketing and player development department. In 2017 in Carson, California at Training Center West, Kortland was promoted to lead national coach for men's and women's tennis and was in charge of all women's and junior boys' programming. He played a key part in recapturing the Junior Fed Cup title in back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018 in Budapest, Hungary. The 2017 team consisted of current world No. 3 Coco Gauff, Alexa Noel and Connie Ma. In 2016, Kortland coached Amanda Anisimova to her first junior French Open final and first WTA Grand Slam win at the U.S. Open. He's also coached Whitney Osuigw and Claire Liu to the Junior French Open final and both to the junior finals at Wimbledon. Kortand was hired as a player development coach in 2013 by the USTA in junior development with the primary responsibility to develop the best prospects and creating programming for all juniors at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the site of the US Open. While working as a coach at Riviera Country Club, he served as a volunteer assistant coach at Pepperdine in 2012. Before joining the USTA, he was a private coach and found much success, developing top-10 national players in every age group of boys and girls for six years, starting at Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles as Head of Elite Player and Academy Development in 2007. Kortland began his coaching career as an assistant coach at LMU in 2001, after graduating from his alma mater with a bachelor's of Communication.
