TEMPE, Ariz. - Thirty members of the Arizona State University track and field program have earned academic accolades as both the Pac-10 Conference and the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) have released their lists of honorees. In all, three women have been voted to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team while 20 women and 10 men have been placed on one of three Academic All-Pac-10 teams.
In a vote of the members of CoSIDA, Brooke Bennett, April Kubishta and Sarah Stevens each were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII Second Team, the precursor to becoming an Academic All-American. The honor was the second in a row for Bennett, who was selected to the first team last year, while both Kubishta and Stevens earned their first honor from CoSIDA.
On the conference level, five women and two men were selected Academic All-Pac-10 First Team honorees, including Bennett, Corey Randall, Lissa Regets, Sarah Shisslak and Angela Spadafino for the women and men's team members Kal Clark and Andrew Smith. Clark earned his second selection to the first team while Smith earned his first conference honor. Shisslak earned first-team honors for the fourth-time in her career while earned her second career selection after earning second team one year ago. It was the first selection of any kind for Regets and Spadafino.
Becky Holley, Jenna Kingma, Kubishta, Anna Masinelli and Cassie Rios joined Andy Haas, Jason Lewis and Ryan Whiting as Academic All-Pac-10 Second Team selections. Holley and Masinelli each earned her third Pac-10 selection while Kingma, Rios and Haas all made their second appearances on the academic teams.
Honorable mention selections were given to Carly Gietler (first career honor), Amy Hastings (second), Jacquelyn Johnson (second), Ali Kielty (first), Whitney Lemieux (first), D'Metra Macedon (first), Jessie McLaughlin (second), Stevens (second), Cara Walker (first) and Alana Waterford (first) for the women while Jeremy Egboro (first), Eric Dall (second), David Gott (second), Joey Heller (second) and David Mehlhorn (second) were selected for the men.
