INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Three Sun Devil swimmers were in action Friday at the 2005 Long Course World Championship Trials held at the IU Natatorium on the first of six days of competition. The 2005 World Championship Trials will run April 1- April 6.
Freshman Caitlin Andrew, the 2005 Pac-10 Champion and fourth-place finisher at the NCAAs in the 100 butterfly, was in action in the 100 butterfly Friday swimming into the B-final with a preliminary swim of 1:01.41. Andrew finished 10th in the 100 fly event, touching the wall in 1:01.19.
Freshman CJ Nuess, who ranks third on the ASU all-time top-ten list in the 400 IM, hit the water Friday to challenge the field in the 400 IM. Nuess swam into the finals with a preliminary swim of 4:28.36. He took eighth-place overall as he touched the wall in the final Friday evening in 4:29.16.
Freshman Sarah A Fischer was also in action Friday, swimming in the 400 freestyle event. Fischer finished 37th with a time of 4:26.30.
Still to compete at the 2005 World Long Course Championship trials is senior Jeff Barrett, sophomore Christine Creek, junior Kathryn Hennessy, junior Heidi Schmidt, sophomore Richie Crowder and former Sun Devil Nick Brunelli. Andrew, Nuess and Fischer will compete again throughout the five days of competition.
