School Records Fall on Day One of the Pac-12 Championships

FEDERAL WAY, Wash.--Records fell on the first night of Pac-12 competition as the Sun Devils set a new school record in the 800 free relay and junior Shannon Landgrebe swam an ASU record split leading off the race, Wednesday night in Federal Way, Wash at the 2012 Pac-12 Women's Swimming and Men's & Women's Diving Championships.

Swimming in the women's 800 free relay were juniors Shannon Landgrebe, Cassie Morrice, Mattie Kukors, and sophomore Tristin Baxter.  The Sun Devils finished fourth and broke the ASU school record with a time of 7:04.91. Landgrebe, who swam the first leg of the relay, broke her own school record with a time of 1:44.39.

In the 200 medley relay were seniors Kelli Kyle and Rebecca Ejdervik, and juniors Caroline Kuczynski and Shannon Landgrebe.  The Sun Devils took the lead for the first 150 meters of the race and finished in fourth place with an NCAA consideration time of 1:37.63. ASU's time of 1:37.63 is the second-best time overall in school history.

After the first night of competition, Arizona State is tied for third with USC and Arizona with 104 points, only 24 points behind day one leader California.

The Sun Devils compete again tomorrow in the following events:

200 individual medley
50 freestyle
Men's 3M diving prelims
Women's 1M prelims (3:00 p.m.)
Women's 1M diving finals

6 p.m. start (Finals)

500 freestyle
200 individual medley
50 freestyle
Men's 3M diving finals
200 freestyle relay (timed finals)
