TEMPE – No. 30 Sun Devil Women's Tennis (10-4, 5-1 Big 12) continued their winning ways at Whiteman Tennis Center with a 4-0 sweep of Cincinnati (6-7, 0-6 Big 12) on Sunday. The win gives ASU a 7-0 record at home this season and the third straight sweep in conference play.
The Sun Devils have won 11 straight matches at home dating back to March 13, 2024 and have won seven straight conference matches since April 5th, 2024. In addition since the start of the 2023 season, the team has won 32 of the last 35 matches at Whiteman Tennis Center.
The top double's pair of Patricija Spaka and Lily Taylor led the way to take the opening point with a dominant 6-1 win. After a slow start on court two, Aiya Nupbay and Emilija Tverijonaite finished the job taking six straight games to win 6-2. Karsyn Evans and Sara Svetac were tied 3-3 when the double's point was won.
In singles, Sara Svetac and Emilija Tverijonaite came out ready, winning the first set in each of their matches, 6-3. Svetac followed up her hot start with a commanding 6-0 win in the second set to secure her victory and add to the Sun Devils' advantage. Similarly, Tverijonaite backed up her performance in the first with another 6-3 second set giving ASU a 3-0 lead in the match.
Lily Taylor completed the sweep for the Sun Devils in a hard-fought 6-4, 6-3 win to close out the match. Taylor now holds a 4-1 singles record in Big 12 play.
While her match went unfinished after the Sun Devils' victory, Patricija Spaka showed incredible resilience on court three. Trailing 5-0 in a tiebreak, Spaka fought all the way back to win the tiebreaker 9-7 to win the first set 7-6 (7) before holding a 5-3 lead in the second set before the match's abandonment.
The Sun Devils will look to keep up the momentum as they head back on the road next week to take on Oklahoma State and Kansas State.
