TEMPE, Ariz. – Sun Devil Women's Golf senior Olivia Mehaffey and freshman Linn Grant were both named Preseason All-Americans by Golfweek earlier this week.
Mehaffey was one of ten named to the publication's First Team, while Grant earned a spot as one of ten on the Second Team. In addition to the All-American distinction, Grant was tabbed as a Top 10 Freshmen to Watch in women's college golf by Golfweek.
Arizona State is one of six schools to have two or more All-Americans, joined by fellow Pac-12 teams Stanford, UCLA, and USC along with Texas and Duke.
The Belfast native got it done on and off the course as a junior, earning a spot on the Pac-12 All-Academic Second Team. The ANNIKA Award finalist won three tournaments this past season, including the Pac-12 Championship and the Norman Regional. She is currently the No. 18 ranked Women's Amateur in the world. Mehaffey is playing her second round in the battle for the 2019 Astor Trophy in Canada, representing Great Britain & Ireland.
A native of Sweden, Grant joins the Sun Devils as one of the nation's top recruits. She was one of only two freshmen to be recognized as a preseason First or Second Team All-American, joined by Pepperdine's Alexa Melton. She is one of three individuals from the Pac-12 tabbed as a Top 10 Freshman to Watch. Ranked as the No. 13 Women's Amateur in the World, Grant figures to make an immediate impact in Arizona State lineup.
Grant has a plethora of international experience, including participating in the 2018 European Ladies Team Championship. She has enjoyed recent success, finishing third at The Women's Amateur Championship and fifth at the European Ladies' Amateur Championship. She competed in the 2018 U.S. Women's Open Championship and was one of five Sun Devils to participate in the inaugural Augusta National Women's Amateur.
A reminder that Arizona State University and Grayhawk Golf Club will host the 2020-2022 NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Golf Championships on Golf Channel in Scottsdale, Ariz. It becomes the first time a university and golf course will host the championships for three consecutive seasons. The 2020 women's championship will be contested on Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor course from May 22-27 with the final three days broadcasted live on Golf Channel.
