TEMPE, Ariz. – The Sun Devil Women's Golf team earned a spot in the Top-10 of a pair of 2019-20 Preseason Collegiate Women's Rankings that were released earlier today.
As the season approaches, there is a growing sense of optimism and excitement regarding the Sun Devil program among those who cover the collegiate game heading into the upcoming year.
Arizona State was slotted at No. 7 in the Golf Channel poll, which released the programs ranked from 5-25 in their initial rankings. The publication will reveal the Top-5 schools one at a time throughout the rest of the week. In addition to their spot in the Golf Channel rankings, the Sun Devils were also recognized as a preseason Top-10 team by Golfweek. The Maroon & Gold came in at No. 10 in the publications first rankings of 2019-20.
Once again, the talent of the Pac-12 Conference is highly regarded. Joining the Sun Devils in the Golfweek Top-10 are three other Pac-12 schools, highlighted by USC claiming the overall top spot. Stanford comes in at No. 3 while No. 5 UCLA makes it three Pac-12 schools in the Top-5 according to Golfweek. A total of seven Pac-12 teams were featured in their Top-30.
2019 Pac-12 Individual Champion Olivia Mehaffey returns for her senior season, ready to end her legendary Sun Devil career on a high note. Incoming freshman Linn Grant has received extremely high praise from the coaching staff and should immediately contribute to help make-up for the loss of Madison Kerley and Sofia Anokhina. The gifted trio of Raquel Olmos, Alexandra Forsterling, and Alessandra Fanali all come back to Tempe with a year of experience under their belt, ready to make even more of an impact. The mid-year addition of talented freshman Amanda Linner, who is graduating early and will arrive in Tempe in January, will provide an additional spark to the Sun Devil roster.
Never afraid to test her team, Head Coach Missy Farr-Kaye's group will be tasked with another challenging schedule, as they will participate in some of the most prestigious events in collegiate women's golf. Arizona State's season kicks-off September 16-18, when they compete in the ANNIKA Intercollegiate presented by 3M along with five other preseason Top-10 teams at Royal Golf Club in Lake Elmo, Minn.
A reminder that Arizona State University and Grayhawk Golf Club will host the 2020-2022 NCAA Division I Men's & Women's Golf Championships on Golf Channel in Scottsdale, Ariz. It becomes the first time a university and golf course will host the championships for three consecutive seasons. The 2020 women's championship will be contested on Grayhawk Golf Club's Raptor course from May 22-27 with the final two days broadcasted live on Golf Channel.
