The Arizona State volleyball team suffered another setback on Thursday night, falling to the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal in three games, 30-25, 30-21, 30-24, at the Maples Pavilion. With the loss, the Sun Devils dropped to 7-17 on the year and 2-11 in Pac-10 play.

Junior outside hitter Nicole Morton (Fallbrook, Calif.) recorded a double-double in the match, leading the Sun Devils with 18 kills as well as contributing 10 digs. Sophomore libero Sydney Donahue (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) again led the Sun Devils in digs, posting 16.

Stanford held the Sun Devils to a -.038 hitting percentage in game one. ASU tallied only nine kills in 52 attempts while committing eleven hitting errors. With the scored tied at 10-10, Stanford went on a brief 4-0 run and ASU could never get any closer than two points. Two attack errors by ASU at 28-25 gave Stanford game one (30-25).

Stanford's defense in game two didn't allow ASU to improve its offense by much. The Sun Devils hit only .114 while the Cardinal checked in at .268. Stanford struck early with a 7-0 lead, and expanded the margin to as many as 14 points (26-12).

With Stanford posting a .439 hitting percentage in game three, the Sun Devils could do nothing to slow the Cardinal. Stanford built a 22-12 lead en route to a 30-24 game three victory and the match.

The Sun Devils visit Berkeley next to take on the No. 18 California Bears on Friday night.
