ASU Places 13 Swimmers and Divers On CSCAA Academic All-America Lists

Thirteen ASU swimmers and divers have been named Academic All-America honorees by the College Swim Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the 2005-06 season, highlighted by four first-team selections.

Caitlin Andrew () led the way for the Sun Devils, posting a 4.19 grade-point average (GPA), the highest by any men's or women's swimmer or diver in the nation last season.  Joining Andrew is Amy Konowalik (), who submitted a 3.69 GPA while studying Biochemistry during her first season at ASU. As a team, ASU's women's swimmers and divers recorded a 3.33 GPA last season.

's women's swimming and diving team showcased six CSCAA Individual Honorable Mention Academic All-Americans, including (, ), Sarah Fischer (, ), Kathryn Hennessy (, ), Heidi Schmidt (, ), Sandra Steffensen (, ) and Laura Ullrich ().

ASU's men's swimming and diving team produced five CSCAA Individual Academic All-Americans, including two first-team honorees.

Lucas Azevedo () earned first-team honors, posting a 3.88 GPA in pre-business, the fifth-highest grade point average in the nation by a men's swimmer for 2005-06. In addition to Azevedo, diver Brant Bingham () earned first-team honors after submitting a 3.58 GPA as an Interdisciplinary Studies major.

ASU's men's swimming and diving squad also landed three CSCAA Individual Honorable Mention Academic All-America honorees, including Richie Crowder (, ), Leo Martins (, ) and Marcus Titus ().

Andrew, Azevedo, Creek, Fischer and Konowalik all return for the 2006-07 season, which kicked off with the team's annual alumni meet at ASU's Mona Plummer Aquatics Complex on Sept. 30.
