Arizona State Volleyball Travels to Northwest
Sun Devils Hit the Road to Face No. 10 Washington State and No. 18 Washington
The Arizona State Sun Devils (12-9, 3-7 Pac-10), trying to snap a two-game losing streak, are on the road this week and face No. 10 Washington State on Friday, October 31 at 7 p.m. PST and No. 18 Washington on Saturday, November 1 at 7 p.m. PST.
LAST WEEK IN TEMPE
Arizona State fell to No. 15 Arizona, 1-3 (7-15, 15-6, 15-17, 5-15) in Tempe on Friday night before a crowd of 1,650 at the University Activity Center. Senior outside hitter Terri Cox had 20 kills and 15 digs while senior middle blocker Kirstin Mattson contributed 15 kills, seven digs, and five blocks. For the Wildcats, senior Carolyn Penfield recorded a career-high 33 kills.
ABOUT WASHINGTON STATE
The Cougars are 19-4 overall, 7-4 in conference action ... Jennifer Stinson (3.46 kpg and 1.68 bpg) and Jennifer Canevari (2.33 kpg, 3.05 dpg) lead a balanced WSU attack ... WSU is 2-3 in its last five matches ... They are coached by Cindy Fredrick (ninth season) ... ASU leads the all-time series with the Cougs, 12-11... WSU defeated the Devils earlier this season with a 3-1 victory (13-15, 15-10, 16-14, 15-6).

The Huskies are 13-7 overall, 8-3 in Pac-10 play ... They are led by Makare Desilets (4.41 kpg and 2.01 bpg) and Leslie Tuiasosopo (3.47 kpg and 1.63 bpg) ... UW is 4-1 in its last five matches ... They are coached by Bill Neville (sixth season) ... UW leads the all-time series with ASU, 16-11 ... The Devils defeated UW earlier this season, 3-2 (14-16, 15-3, 15-12, 10-15, 15-12).
INJURY UPDATE
Starting setter Jolynn Faatulu went down in the third game of the Oregon State match on 10/18 with an injury to her right ankle. The sophomore suffered an avulsion fracture to the ankle. She is out indefinitely. Taking over setting duties will be freshman Carmen Fusco (San Clemente, Calif./Capo Valley Christian HS).

HEAD COACH SNYDER-PARK
Sun Devils head coach Patti Snyder-Park enters her ninth season with the Arizona State volleyball program. She has guided the Devils to four NCAA tournament appearances in the past five years including a semifinal match appearance at the NCAA Mountain Regional in 1995. Snyder-Park has taken ASU to post-season competition in five of her last eight seasons and has posted a winning record in six of the last seven seasons. She has a career record of 147-107 at Arizona State.
COX DOES IT ALL
Senior outside hitter Terri Cox looks to finish out her remarkable career with style. Cox has grabbed MVP honors in two tournaments this season (Sun Devil Challenge and Ladyjack Invit.) and was an all-tournament selection at the Judy Bellomo Classic as well. Once again, she is leading the squad in both kills (4.47 kpg) and digs (3.54 dpg). She has recorded a double-double in 15 of ASU's 21 matches this season. Cox has become the seventh player in ASU history to record over 1,000 kills and digs in her career.
MATTSON IN THE MIDDLE
Senior middle blocker Kirstin Mattson will captain the squad this season along with teammate Jen Lucero. Mattson was named to the all-tournament team at the Sun Devil Challenge in August. The 6-1 middle leads the team in block solos with 24 and block assists (83) in 1997. Mattson becomes the sixth Sun Devil to rack up over 100 solo blocks and 200 block assists during her career.
TALK ABOUT TOUGH
The Sun Devils have faced a ranked opponent in seven of its last 11 matches and face 10th-ranked Washington State and 21st-ranked Washington this weekend.
