Women's Swimming Heads to NCAA Championships

This Week:
Members of the No. 16 Arizona State women's swimming will be competing in the 2008 NCAA Championships held Mar. 20-22 in Columbus, Ohio. Caitlin Andrew, Ashton Aubry, Jen Beckberger, Lindsey Brown, Jess Perazzo and Lindsey Russenberger have all qualified for the Championships.

Last Year at NCAA Championships:
Six Sun Devil women earned All-America honors at the 2007 NCAA Championships. Andrew placed third in the 100 fly to claim All-American status. The Sun Devil relay teams were also very successful, as the 200 free, 200 medley and 400 medley teams tabbed All-American honors. The 200 free team consisted of Andrew, Beckberger, Brown and Abra Armour while the 200 and 400 medley teams included Carissa Abe, Sara McDaniel, Andrew and Beckberger.

Recap of the Pac-10 Championships:
Andrew broke four of her own school records at this season's Pac-10 Championships. She set new standards in the 50 free (22.07), 100 free (48.32), 100 back (52.83) and 100 fly (51.68). Andrew was the Pac-10 runner-up in the 50 free and 100 fly and placed third in the 100 back. The Sun Devil 200 free relay team also topped their school record time with a time of 1:29.73. The Sun Devils placed sixth overall.

Top Times:
Andrew currently holds one this season's top-ten time in three of her events. Andrew currently has the NCAA's third fastest 100 fly time this season, fifth fastest 50 free and seventh fastest 100 free. The 200 free relay team currently has the nation's seventh fastest time, while the 400 free relay is sixth in nation. The 400 medley relay is 11th in the nation.

Olympic Hopefuls:
Seven Sun Devil women have qualified for the Olympic Trials. Five will attempt to represent the United States while two are competing to represent their native Canada. Andrew (50 free, 100 free, 100 fly), Ashton Aubry (200 free, 100 fly, 200 fly), Lindsey Brown (100 free), Ashley Evans (200 IM) and Ellis Schieman (200 fly, 400 free) have qualified for the U.S. Olympic Team Trials which will be held June 29-July 6 in Omaha, Neb. Jen Beckberger (50 free, 100 free, 200 free) and Shannon Garrett (400 free, 800 free) have qualified for the Canadian Olympic Trials.
