Sun Devils Bury Miners, 5-1
TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Arizona State soccer team (5-1-0, 1-0-0 Pac-10), playing its first night game, extended its winning streak to two games in a 5-1 blowout of Texas-El Paso (3-3-1, 0-0-0 WAC) Friday at Sun Devil Soccer Field.
ASU's first goal came in the 12th minute from freshman defender Jaclyn Clark with the assist going to sophomore forward Aisha Thomas and freshman midfielder Jessica Bohl.
At the 19:58 mark, Clark fed freshman midfielder Antoinette Marjanovic for ASU's second goal. UTEP's goalie attempted to stop the shot, but ended up in the goal with the ball.
Freshman midfielder Erin McGinnis scored ASU's third goal off a cross from sophomore forward Trisha Steiner.
Bohl and Marjanovic connected in the 39th minute to give Bohl her first goal as a Sun Devil.
ASU's final goal was an unassisted score from Marjanovic in the 44th minute. Marjanovic leads all Sun Devils in goals with five, and in points with 10.
UTEP scored in the last 30 seconds of the game to stop the shutout attempt.
Sun Devil goalkeeper Erin Reinke had seven saves while the Miners' goalkeeper stopped four shots.
The Sun Devils play their second game in a six-game homestand Friday, September 26, against University of Creighton at 7 p.m.
