PLEASANTON, Calif. - The fifth-ranked Arizona State University women's golf team stands in third place after the first round of the 2005 Pac-10 Conference Championships, being held Monday-Wednesday at the par 72, 6,304-yard Ruby Hill Golf Club.
The Sun Devils carded a nine-over 297 on Monday and stands eight strokes behind tournament leader UCLA (289). USC is in second after shooting a three-over 291 in the first round followed by ASU, Washington (298) and Washington State (299).
Freshman Louise Stahle, the top-ranked player in the country, leads the Sun Devils and stands in second place after the first round. Stahle carded a three-under 69 on Monday and trails tournament leader Susie Mathews of UCLA by just one stroke (68).
Sophomore Tiffany Tavee is tied for seventh after shooting a one-over 73 on Monday, while junior Alissa Kuczka is tied for 29th at five-over 77. Senior Erin Tone is tied for 33rd at six-over 78, while sophomore Charmaine Erasmus is tied for 41st after shooting an eight-over 80 on Monday.
The Pac-10 Championships continue on Tuesday and Wednesday with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. each day. ASU will start off the first tee at 8 a.m. and will play with Arizona and Washington State in Tuesday's second round.
