STANFORD, Calif. - Led by freshman Erin Tone, the Arizona State women's golf team shot a 21-over par 309 Saturday in the first round of the Peg Barnard Collegiate, being held April 13-14 at the par 72, 6,168-yard Stanford Golf Course.
The eighth-ranked Sun Devils are 12 strokes off the pace of Washington, which carded a nine-over 297 to lead after the first round. USC (300), Washington State (301), California (303) and San Jose State (303) round out the top five after the first day of play.
For the Sun Devils, Tone led the team, firing a four-over 76 and stands in a tie for 19th place after the first round of play. Junior Blair O'Neal is tied for 27th (77), while juniors Melanie Hunt and Ga?lle Truet each shot six-over 78s Saturday and are tied for 37th. Senior Lisa Meredith is tied for 51st after a first-round 80, while freshman Josefin Gustafsson, who is playing as an individual, is tied for 27th with a five-over 77 in the first round.
Individually, San Jose State's Marcela Leon and Washington State's Tasha Browner are tied for first after carding even-par 72s on Saturday.
The Peg Barnard Collegiate concludes on Sunday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. Pacific Time.
