TEMPE, Ariz. - With top five finishes in six of seven tournaments this season, the seventh-ranked Arizona State University women's golf team will play host to the 2005 PING/ASU Invitational Friday-Sunday, April 1-3 at the par 72, 6,230-yard Karsten Golf Course. The PING/ASU Invitational has been held each year since 1965-66, while ASU has won the tournament in 22 of the 39 years it has been held, most recently in 1999.
Live scoring for the PING/ASU Invitational will be available for each round at www.golfstatresults.com, while complete results will also be available after each round on ASU's official web site at www.thesundevils.com.
Admission is free to the public for each round.
THE FORMAT: 18 holes will be played each day with tee times beginning at 8 a.m. Mountain Standard Time from tees No. 1 and No. 10 Friday through Sunday. Second- and third-round pairings are based on team total and individual total within the team. Team ties will be broken by the highest score, while players tied within a team will utilize the previous day's position. The top four scores from each five-person team will count toward the team score.
THE FIELD: This year's PING/ASU Invitational will feature 17 teams including ASU, Arizona, California, New Mexico, New Mexico State, Northern Arizona, Oregon, Oregon State, Pepperdine, San Jose State, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Texas, TCU, Tulsa and Washington.
Thirteen of the 17 teams are ranked in the nation's top 35 in the March 28 Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index including No. 2 UCLA, No. 5 Pepperdine, No. 7 ASU, No. 8 Washington, No. 12 New Mexico, No. 18 USC, No. 19 Arizona, No. 20 Stanford, No. 22 Texas, No. 24 Tulsa, No. 26 California, No. 28 TCU and No. 33 Oregon.
ASU'S LINEUP: ASU's lineup will feature freshman Louise Stahle (Lund, Sweden), sophomore Tiffany Tavee (Gilbert, Ariz.), junior Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.), sophomore Charmaine Erasmus (Bradenton, Fla.) and senior Erin Tone (Gilbert, Ariz.). Freshman Brooke Todare (Paradise Valley, Ariz.), sophomore Lindsay Anderson (El Paso, Texas) and senior Nicole Deacon (Scottsdale, Ariz.) will play as individuals.
LAST YEAR AT THE PING/ASU INVITATIONAL: UCLA captured the 2004 PING/ASU Invitational championship with a three-day total of three-under par 861, while tournament host Arizona State finished 11th. UCLA's Charlotte Mayorkas won individual medalist honors for the second consecutive season, carding a nine-under 207. Erin Tone was ASU's top finisher last season with a tie for 18th at five-over 221 (73-74-74), while Charmaine Erasmus, who was playing as an individual, tied for 22nd (77-73-72=222).
