No. 9 Arizona Defeats Arizona State Women

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Arizona forward Adia Barnes scored a game-high 33 points in 30 minutes to lead the ninth-ranked Wildcats (11-3, 5-1 Pac-10) to a 70-60 victory over Arizona State (6-8, 2-3) Saturday before 3,153 at the University Activity Center.

No other Wildcat had more than eight points, but Arizona shot 53.8 percent (on 28-of-52 shooting) from the field compared to ASU's 29.3 percent (17-of-58 shooting).

The Sun Devils came out strong and went on a 10-2 scoring spree to begin the game. ASU led for the first 10 minutes, but a layup from Barnes at 9:39 in the first half put the Wildcats up 20-19.

Arizona outscored the Sun Devils 15-9 throughout the rest of the half to go into the break with a 35-28 edge.

ASU came within three with a jumper from forward Kellie McDanal (Conifer, Colo.) at 12:48 in the second half, but the Wildcats held on. Arizona brought their biggest lead to 15 twice in the game, but the Sun Devils continued to fight and came within nine before the Wildcats pulled ahead to win by 10.

Junior forward Kisha White (Phoenix, Ariz.) led the Sun Devils with 14 points and a career-high 10 rebounds. Forward Stephanie Freeman (Austin, Texas) and center Rachel Holt (Buckeye, Ariz.) each added nine points for the Sun Devils.

The Wildcats outrebounded the Sun Devils 41-37, but Arizona had 36 turnovers compared to ASU's 28.

The Sun Devils travel to Oregon January 22 and 24 to take on Oregon State and Oregon, respectively. Both games can be heard live on KMVP Radio (860 AM).

ASU returns home Thursday, January 29, when it meets up with Stanford at 7 p.m. in the University Activity Center.
