Arizona State Downs Oregon State, 85-79

CORVALLIS, Ore. - Arizona State senior guard Stephanie Freeman scored all 14 of her points in the second half as she helped the Sun Devils overcome an eight-point halftime deficit to defeat Oregon State, 85-79, in Pac-10 women's basketball action Thursday evening.

Oregon State (6-10, 1-6), which led by as many as 15 points in the first half, went into the locker room with a 35-28 advantage at the break. Arizona State (7-9, 3-3) opened the second half with a 12-4 run to claim the lead after Freeman hit two free throws to put ASU ahead. The game was a seesaw battle from then on, with seven ties and nine lead changes in the second half.

OSU sophomore guard Vanessa Morris hit a field goal late in the second half to put the Beavers on top, 72-71, but that would be the last time OSU would lead.

Beaver senior forward Monica Watts, who had a game-high 22 points, hit a three-pointer in the last minute of the game to close the gap to 79-82, but the Sun Devils responded with three free throws to secure the lead. Arizona State center Rachel Holt led the Sun Devils with 19 points.

Oregon State shot 51.6 percent (32-62), compared to ASU' 45.9 percent (28/61), and the Beavers outrebounded the Sun Devils, 39-33. However, OSU committed 33 turnovers while ASU had just 20.
