TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State sophomore Nick Frost and junior Rocky Smart were named to the Pacific-10 Conference All-Academic wrestling second-team, the conference announced Friday, March 29.
A native of Tucson, Ariz., Frost has a 3.55 GPA and is majoring in computer systems engineering. Frost, ASU's starter at 165 pounds all season, finished third at the Pac-10 Championships and qualified for his first NCAA Championships where he posted a 2-2 record. Frost compiled an overall record of 21-13 and a dual record of 8-6, while tallying five falls, six major decisions and a team-high four technical falls. Two times this season, he won a match by technical fall that proved to be the deciding factor in ASU team victories.
Smart, from Pleasant Grove, Utah, has a 3.58 GPA and is majoring in history. A three-time NCAA qualifier and team co-captain, Smart came one match away from earning his first All-America honors with a 3-2 record at this year's NCAA Championships. As ASU's starter at 157 pounds, he compiled an overall record of 22-7 and a dual record of 8-1, despite missing a month of competition due to a hand injury.
Smart placed fifth at the Pac-10 Championships and received a wild card berth to compete in his third straight NCAA Championships. He also won the 157-pound title at the Missouri Open. Smart transferred to ASU from BYU prior to his sophomore season.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-10 All-Academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall GPA and be either a starter or significant substitute.
