Two Student-Athletes Transfer to ASU Women's Basketball Program

June 1, 2006

TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State women's basketball coach Charli Turner Thorne today announced that Sybil Dosty and Lauren Lacey have transferred to the Arizona State women's basketball program. Per NCAA rules both will have to sit out a year and will not be eligible to play for the Sun Devils until the 2007-08 season.

"I could not be more excited about the addition of Sybil and Lauren to our program," said Turner Thorne. "Having previously recruited both of them I know what tremendous young ladies they are and the great families they come from. Sybil and Lauren will really compliment each other. Both are versatile scorers who will fit well into an up-tempo style.

"Although we'll have to wait a year to see them on the floor I'm looking forward to the opportunity to help them hone their skills and develop into two of the premier post players in the country."

Dosty, a 6-3 center, has transferred to ASU from the University of Tennessee where she played in 62 games during her freshman and sophomore years. This past season Dosty led the Lady Vols in field goal percentage (.615) for the second consecutive season as she averaged 2.9 points and 2.9 rebounds while playing 10.3 minutes per game. She had career bests in points (12), field goals (5) and minutes (20) in the Lady Vols' victory over Army in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in March. As a freshman in 2004-05, Dosty averaged 2.5 points and 2.4 rebounds in 27 games (7.0 minutes per game). Her .565 field goal percentage led the Lady Vols.

A native of Tucson, Ariz., Dosty was an adidas All-American at Salpointe Catholic where she averaged 27 points and 11.3 rebounds during her 109-game high school career. A three-time Street and Smith Honorable Mention All-American, Dosty was named the Gatorade Arizona Women's Basketball Player of the Year in 2004. Other honors in 2004 included being named player of the year by both the Tucson Citizen and the Arizona Informant.

Lacey, a 6-3 forward/center, has transferred to ASU from the University of Minnesota where she played in 52 games in two seasons for the Gophers. In 2005-06 Lacey played in 28 games and averaged 5.1 points and 2.0 rebounds. She scored in double figures six times, including a career-best 16 points in a win over Michigan State. She also came through with strong outings in games against No. 21 New Mexico (12 points, three blocks and two steals in only 15 minutes) and No. 9 Stanford (14 points). As a freshman Lacey played in 24 games and averaged 3.2 points and 1.4 rebounds per game. She scored a season-best eight points on two occasions and hit .556 percent of her shots against Big Ten opponents.

Lacey was a two-time Street and Smith All-American while playing for Marian Catholic High School in Olympia Fields, Ill. An adidas All-American and a member of the 2004 USA Youth Development Festival Team, Lacey finished her high school career with more than 1,800 points and more than 600 rebounds in helping lead Marian Catholic to a 108-22 record over a four-span.
