T&F Finishes NCAA Indoor With Three All-Americans

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.—The Arizona State track and field team recorded a trio of All-American performances on Saturday at the 2014 NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Junior Shelby Houlihan started things off for the Sun Devils, taking third in the mile finals at 4:39.52. Houlihan was in seventh going into the final 200m, but used a 32-second lap to propel her up the rankings.

Redshirt senior Ryan Milus set a new personal best in the 60m dash finals, running 6.57 for second place and his first-ever All-American honor.

In the shot put, redshirt senior Anna Jelmini picked up her seventh career All-America honor as she placed seventh in the shot put with a throw of 16.82m (55-2.75).

Also for the Sun Devils, Houlihan ran the 3,000m run, finishing at 9:39.07 for 14th overall.

“All in all, it’s nice to walk away with an NCAA runner-up from Ryan (Milus) and Shelby’s (Houlihan) top-three finish in the mile,” head coach Greg Kraft said. “She took on a very ambitious double today with the 3,000m. Anna (Jelmini), you kind of take for granted, since this is her third time as an indoor All-American. I liked what I saw today, and we’re excited to come out next week with the outdoor portion of our schedule.”

Each side finished with eight total points, the men placing in 26th, while the women finished at 29th.

Up next, the Sun Devils will open the 2014 outdoor schedule at home, hosting the Baldy Castillo Invitational on March 21-22 at the Sun Angel Track Stadium.
