Through day one preliminaries at the Texas Invitational in , , swimming and diving showcased a total of 10 NCAA qualifying or consideration times throughout the first 10 events.
Highlighting the Sun Devils' early charge was junior Caitlin Andrew, earning an automatic NCAA berth in the 100 fly, finishing in 53.41, a third-place finish. Andrew, ASU's record holder in the 100 fly, finished as the national runner up in that event last season, and has now earned the chance to compete at the 2007 NCAA Championships.
ASU earned two NCAA `B' qualifying times by junior Lucas Azevedo and sophomore Jen Beckberger. Azevedo led the way for the men's team, placing fourth in the 500 free (4:23.23), while Beckberger swam the fastest 50 free of the season for the Sun Devil women, touching in just 23.21.
The men's team showcased three swimmers to achieve consideration times in the 100 fly, including sophomore Sean Boyle, freshman Ante Cvitkovic and junior John Dwelley. Junior CJ Nuess added an additional consideration time in the 500 free.
For the women, Andrew and freshman Ashley Evans earned consideration times in the 200 IM.
In total, ASU swimmers earned national consideration times or better in five of the 10 events swam during the day one preliminaries.
Swimming and diving will continue to compete at the 2006 Texas Invitational Friday, and the event will come to a close Saturday.
