Swimming & Diving Teams Move Up In National Rankings

Nov. 29, 2001

TEMPE, Ariz. - Two weeks after both programs earned their first dual meet victories over USC since 1992, and on the eve of competing in the prestigious Texas Invitational, Arizona State's men's and women's swimming and diving teams moved up in the national CSCAA rankings.

The men (3-0), who were ranked 13th in the first two CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) polls jumped all they way to No. 5 in the country, while the women (4-0) continued to move up the ladder, going from 11th to ninth, after debuting in the polls at 13th.

In the last dual meet for the Sun Devils (Nov. 17), the ASU men handled a then-fourth-ranked USC squad 162-138, while the women followed their upset of UCLA by defeating a then-third-ranked Trojan team 155-145. As a result, both Sun Devil teams are now atop of USC in the standings.

With a combined seven wins between them, the Sun Devil swimming and diving programs are off to their best start since the men won four straight meets and the women three to start the 1993-94 season. To see the complete updated rankings, go to www.cscaa.org.
