This Week
This week, the Arizona State swimming and diving teams are traveling to the annual Texas Invitational hosted by the University of Texas at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swimming Center in Austin. The competition begins on Thursday, December 2, and runs through Saturday, December 4.
The Polls

Seven Swimmers' Times in NCAA Top Twenty
Through three meets for the men and five for the women in the swimming and diving season, seven ASU swimmers have recorded times in the NCAA top twenty for the 2004-2005 campaign. Senior All-American Florencia Szigeti leads the way with three of her times being among the nation's best, including a third best of 49.45 in the 100 freestyle. She also claims top-ten times in both the 50 and 200 freestyle (9th, 50 free, 22.96, 8th, 200 free, 1:47.88). Others in the national top twenty are junior Heidi Schmidt (13th, 100 breast, 1:02.94), junior All-American David Kolozar (15th, 200 fly, 1:48.68), freshman CJ Nuess (15th, 400 IM, 3:56.02), freshman Lucas Azevedo (16th 1650 free, 15:32.67), junior Leo Martins (17th, 200 breast, 2:02.03), and freshman Caitlin Andrew (18th, 100 fly, 55.45).
Men, Last Year at the Texas Invitational
The Sun Devil men have one member on this year's squad, junior Tom Hickman, who swam at last year's Texas Invitational. Hickman saw action in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events
Women, Last Year at the Texas Invitational
The Sun Devil women sent four competitors to the meet last year, senior Ágnes Kovács and sophomore Abra Armour return on this year's squad. Kovács recorded some outstanding performances, including three first-place finishes in the 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke and the 200m IM. Armour saw action in the 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle and 100m backstroke where she set career best times in the 50 and 200 freestyle events.
ASU, Last Time in the Pool
The Arizona State women were last in the pool on November 19 and 20 against UCLA and USC where they fell to the Bruins, 174-123, and earned the tie against the Trojans, 150-150. Highlights for the Sun Devil women against UCLA were two first-place finishes Trisha Tumlinson. Tumlinson led the way for the women in the diving pool claiming first-place in both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events. The women claimed six first-place finishes against USC, with Andrew leading the way with two top finishes in the 100 backstroke and 100 butterfly. Other top finishes for the Sun Devil women were Sarah A Fischer (1,650 free), Sally Brown (200 IM) Heidi Schmidt (100 breast) and Florencia Szigeti (100 free. The Sun Devil men last swam on November 19-20 where the men came up short against USC in a two-day meet. Junior All-American Joona Puhakka was true to form as he claimed both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard events, in which he beat his own school-record in the 3-meter with a score of 398.32 to set a new record.
Breaking Records
Junior All-American Joona Puhakka set his fourth school-record in the 3-meter springboard event with a score of 398.32 against USC on November 20. Puhakka has set or broke a school-record in each of his three seasons as a Sun Devil.
Up Next For The Sun Devils
The Sun Devil swimming and diving teams don't compete again until January 7, 2005, when they host Wyoming at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. They follow up with a January 8 meet, where the men host the Universtiy of British Columbia and the women play host to Oregon State.
