TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University swimming and diving travels to California and Stanford this weekend. The Sun Devils will compete against Cal (No. 2 men, No. 6 women) on Friday, Jan. 20 and Stanford (No. 3 men, No. 3 women) Saturday, Jan. 21 with both meets beginning at 1 p.m. MST.
Against Cal last season, diver Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) broke the school record in the three-meter dive with a score of 449.48. Swimmer Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) swam well against Cal last season, winning the 100-yard backstroke and the 100-yard butterfly. She was also on ASU's 200-yard medley relay team that took first place.
Despite the men's and women's teams falling to Stanford last season, Puhakka also broke the school record in the one-meter diving event. Andrew won the 100-yard backstroke and came in second place in the 100-yard butterfly to U.S. Olympian Dana Kirk. Andrew also swam the second leg of the 200-yard freestyle relay team that captured first place for the Sun Devils.
