Following its decisive sweep over the UNLV Rebels on Friday, Oct. 20, prepares take to the road for the first time during the 2006-07 season. The men's and women's swimming and diving teams will travel to the state of Indiana to compete against a pair of nationally-ranked Big Ten Conference squads, beginning in West Lafayette, Ind., as ASU takes on the Purdue Boilermakers on Friday, Oct. 27. From there, the Sun Devils will venture to , where the ASU will face the Indiana Hoosiers on Saturday, Oct. 28.
ASU was led by its accomplished veterans in its dual meet sweep against UNLV, as its No. 19 men's team won 184-116 and the women were largely victorious, to the tune of a 233-65 final tally. Juniors All-American Caitlin Andrew and CJ Nuess guided the women's and men's teams, respectively, as each picked up three individual victories over the course of the meet. Sophomore Jen Beckberger, freshman Ashley Evans and junior Sarah Fischer each picked up a pair of victories for the Sun Devil women, as did All-American junior Lucas Azevedo, sophomore Sean Boyle, freshman Ante Cvitkovic and junior Steve Neuwart for the men's team.
In 2005-06, recorded dual meet records of 5-6 for the men and 8-2 for the women. Additionally, the men, coached by Dan Ross finished sixth in the Big Ten Conference, and 16th at the 2006 NCAA Championships, while the women, coached by Cathy Wright-Eger, placed fifth in the conference and 22nd at the NCAA Championships.
ASU will provide Purdue (No. 23 men, No. 25 women) with its first dual meet competitor of the 2006-07 regular season.
Following its dual meet against Purdue, ASU will travel to face , whose men's team captured the Big Ten Championship last season, which helped earn head swimming coach Ray Looze Big Ten Conference Swimming Coach of the Year honors. Also, 's men's swimming and diving team placed 12th at the 2006 NCAA Championships. The women's team placed fourth in the Big Ten, and ultimately finished 14th at the NCAA Championships for the 2005-06 season.
Indiana's No. 12 men's team and No. 19 women's squad each began their regular seasons with victories over Kentucky on Oct. 21, and will face conference rival Northwestern on Friday, Oct. 27 before facing the Sun Devils.
