TEMPE, Ariz. -- Head Swimming Coach Mike Chasson and Diving Coach Mark Bradshaw have annouced the schedule for the upcoming 2004-05 Arizona State Swimming & Diving season. The Sun Devils will compete against some of the best competition in the country, including home meets scheduled against Stanford, California and UNLV.
The season starts off with the annual Intrasquad meet on October 1 and runs until the end of March with the women's NCAA Championships (Mar. 17-19) in West Lafayette, Ind., and the men's NCAA Championships (Mar. 24-26) in Minneapolis, Minn.
The women's squad, who placed 14th in last season's NCAA Championship, return 15 letterwinners, including five All-Americans and Pac-10 200 free champion Florencia Szigeti. The men's squad returns fifteen letterwinners and three All-Americans from last year's team. The diving team returns reigning NCAA and Pac-10 Champion Joona Puhakka on the men's side and Pac-10 champion Trisha Tumlinson for the women.
The first half of the season points towards the Texas Invitational where the Sun Devils will go against some of the best teams in the country in Austin. The second half features home meets against Stanford and California, as well as the rivalry swim against Arizona, as both teams gear up for the Pac-10 and NCAA Championships.
The home schedule is highlighted by visits from Stanford on Jan. 21 and California on Jan. 22, both schools that recorded top-10 finishes in last spring's NCAA championships on both the men's and women's sides.
The away schedule does not get any easier for the Sun Devils as they travel to Purdue, USC and Arizona, while the women's squad will also face Indiana and UCLA in dual meet action.
