Arizona State junior diver Allan Sonkin highlighted the day for the Sun Devils with a second-place finish in 3-meter diving at the 1999 Pacific-10 Conference Men's and Women's Diving and Women's Swimming Championships, being held at the Weyerhaeuser/King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, Washington. Sonkin, who is ASU's only diver participating at the hampionships, scored 516.55 points to finish second right behind Justin Dumais of USC who scored 658.05 points.
In the swimming portion of the championships, junior co-captain Casey Murphy had the best finish of the day for the Devils, taking eighth place in the 500 free with a time of 4:50.42. Not far behind Murphy in 10th place was junior all-America Carolyn Adel (4:52.51).
ASU's other top-25 finish on the day came from junior Stephanie Elwonger, who swam a 2:05.01 in the 200 IM, which was good enough for 21st place.
The Pac-10 Championships continue through Saturday.
