TEMPE, Ariz. - Nick Williams, a two-time state champion from Reno, Nev., has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue is education and athletic careers with the Arizona State University wrestling program, Head Coach Thom Ortiz announced today. Williams will join the team in time to compete during the upcoming 2007-08 campaign.
Williams began his career at Galena High School competing at 160 pounds and concluded his junior season as the state 4A champion. For his senior season, however, Williams moved up to the 215 weight class and continued his winning ways as he captured the state 4A title.
Also talented in the classroom, Williams was named as a National Merit semifinalist earlier in his senior year and will come to Tempe with another distinguished title as he will be the first Sun Devil wrestler in the Barrett, The Honors College, on the Arizona State campus.
Williams is the fourth member of the 2007 signing class, joining Kyle DeBerry (Tucson, Ariz.), Jesse Robbins (Oviedo, Fla.) and Vincent Varela (Rio Rancho, N.M.).
