E.C. Hill

TitleAssistant Coach / Director of Program Management
Arizona State University head women’s basketball coach Natasha Adair announced the appointment of Yconda "E.C." Hill as assistant coach and director of program management in June 2024.

In Hill, Adair welcomes a veteran coach with more than 20 years of experience in the college ranks, including three seasons as a head coach (Hill most recently served as head coach at Delaware State for two seasons).

A proven leader, Hill brings a wealth of experience in the development of domestic and international perimeter players, scouting, scheduling, game preparation and personal development. Hill also has an abundance of experience playing in the professional ranks. After a college career that included being named an All-American at Northern Illinois, Hill went on to play professional for several years in the WNBA, ABL and several teams in Europe.

Before being named to the top spot at Delaware State, Hill served as an assistant coach at Towson (Md.) University for two seasons. During the 2020-21 campaign, Hill primarily worked with the Towson guards. Under Hill’s tutelage, Tiger guard Kionna Jeter finished her career averaging 23.0 points per game to rank 10th in the country and first in the Colonial Athletic Association. Jeter became the first player in Towson history to be drafted into the WNBA after being chosen by the Las Vegas Aces with the 12th pick in the third round of the 2021 WNBA Draft.

Before Towson, Hill was the head coach for three seasons (2016-19) at Montverde Academy, a private boarding school in Montverde, Fla.

Hill not only has experience in the prior iteration of the Pac-12, but also direct knowledge of the Territorial Cup rivalry that will continue when ASU and Arizona start play in the Big 12 in 2024-25.

From 2011-16, Hill was an assistant coach at Arizona. While with the Wildcats, Hill coached Candice Warthen, one of the best scorers in program history and the 18th player in program history to reach 1,000 points. Hill was also the position coach for Davellyn Whyte, who was drafted 16th overall in the 2013 WNBA Draft. In Hill’s first season (2011-12), the Wildcats started 11-1, their best opening to a season since 1999-00.

Hill also spent six years as an assistant coach at her alma mater.

A legend in her own right as a member of both the NIU Athletics Hall of Fame and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Hill helped lead the Huskies to three straight NCAA Tournament berths under head coach Jane Albright.

As a player, Hill collected an abundance of accolades as she was named a first-team U.S. Basketball Writers' Association All-American, a Kodak District Four All-American, a preseason Street and Smith's and Basketball Times All-American, Mid-Continent Conference Player of the Year, first-team All-Mid-Con and All-Mid-Con Tournament. Hill played a major role on the 1993-94 NIU squad that went 25-6, advanced to the NCAA Tournament and won the 1993-94 Mid-Con regular-season title with an 18-0 record.

Hill’s WNBA playing experience included stints with the Charlotte Sting (2000), Phoenix Mercury and Los Angeles Sparks (2001) and the Orlando Miracle (2002). Hill started her pro career in the American Basketball League, playing for the New England Blizzard (1996-98) and the Chicago Condors (1998-99). Her pro career also included time playing for several teams in Europe.

Hill earned her degree in communications from NIU in 1995 and is a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. She has a daughter, Asia Janay Murray.
