BASEBALL (PAT MURPHY/15th SEASON)
Won an unprecedented third consecutive Pac-10 championship and made its 21st appearance in the College World Series, finishing the season 51-14 (21-6 in Pac-10)...ASU swept the Tempe Regional, beating Kent State and Oral Roberts (twice), then swept Clemson in the Tempe Super Regional to earn a berth in the 2009 College World Series where it beat North Carolina twice and fell to Texas twice, finishing third, their second third-place finish in the last four years...was ranked third in every final major poll (Baseball America, Collegiate Baseball, Rivals.com, USA Today/Coaches, NCBWA)...2009 marks the fifth time in the last seven years that ASU has finished the season ranked in the top 10...became the first team since the merger to win Pac-10 for three straight seasons...led the nation in winning percentage at .785 (51-14)...went 36-4 at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark, giving them a 113-12 mark at home over the past three years...2009 marked the 47th straight season Arizona State topped the 30 win plateau, the 30th time in school history with 40 or more wins and the 17th time with 50+ wins. The 51 wins are the most since 2003 when ASU won 54...advanced to its 10th straight NCAA Tournament and 33rd overall. It was ASU's 21st appearance in the CWS and third since 2005. ASU has made at least a Super Regional in four of the past five years...played one of the toughest schedules in the nation, facing seven teams that advanced to the NCAA Tournament, two that advanced to Super Regionals and two that advanced to the CWS...ASU faced the fourth toughest schedule in the nation, according to BoydsWorld.com and finished the season with the #1 ISR in the country...of the 65 games the Sun Devils played, 42 were against teams ranked at some point during the season, 21 against teams who were ranked in the top 10 at one point and eight against teams that at some point were the top-ranked team...Pat Murphy was named the Pac-10 Coach of the Year for the third straight year, the fourth time he has won the award, and earned his 1,000th career victory in Omaha, one of the youngest coaches ever to the mark...Sun Devils topped the Pac-10 in 10 offensive categories: slugging percentage, on base percentage, runs scored, hits, runs batted in, home runs, total bases, at bats, walks and stolen bases. They led the Pac-10 in six pitching categories: earned run average, opponent batting average, strike outs, wins, fewest runs allowed and fewest walks issued...Leake was named the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year for the second straight season, becoming the first player to win the award in back-to-back years. Leake led the nation with 16 victories, the first Sun Devil to lead the NCAA in wins since Linty Ingram in 1988. The 16 wins was the most since Jeff Niemann of Rice won 17 in 2003. Leake also led the Pac-10 in ERA, innings pitched, strike outs and starts. The three-time first-team All-Pac-10 selection was named the National Player of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association and was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award, the Dick Howser Trophy and the Pitcher of the Year Award. Leake was a unanimous first-team All-American, giving him an All-American honor in all three of his years...joining Leake as a unanimous All-American was Jason Kipnis, who was also named the Pac-10 Player of the Year, the third straight season a Sun Devil has won the award...six Sun Devils were named first-team All-Pac-10...Leake was named the Academic All-American of the Year by ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA, the third time a Sun Devil earned the distinction...five Sun Devils earned Academic All-Pac-10 honors and its three first-team selections led all Pac-10 schools...Kole Calhoun was named to the All-College World Series 2009 team...Leake was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tempe Regional, the second time he earned the award (2007)...six players were selected in the MLB Draft, led by Mike Leake, who was the eighth overall selection by the Cincinnati Reds. The eighth pick was the highest for a Sun Devil since Ryan Mills went sixth in 1998...Matt Newman was named to the USA Baseball National Team, making him the 14th different Sun Devil to play for USA Baseball... averaged 3,207 fans per game, best average attendance in the past 20 years...led nation in winning percentage (.785) as well as Earned Run Average (2.90).

Finished 25-10, the school's first 25-win season since 1974-75 (25-4) and just the third 25-win ledger in school history (1962-63 team set win mark at 26-3)...first back-to-back 20-win seasons (21-13 in 2007-08) since 1980-81...tied for third in the Pac-10 at 11-7, best league finish since 1994-95 (third at 12-6)...advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2003 (13th time overall) and for the second time in the past 14 seasons by notching a six-seed at Miami and topped Atlantic 10 Tournament champion Temple 66-57 in the first round but fell to third-seeded Syracuse 78-67 in the second round...went 11-5 against 2009 NCAA Tournament teams...Herb Sendek won his 300th game (at Oregon on Feb. 5), beat Arizona in Tempe on his birthday (Feb. 22), coached in his 500th career game when ASU beat UCLA on Feb. 12 and improved to 6-1 in NCAA first-round tournament games...James Harden was selected third overall in the 2009 NBA Draft, the highest a Sun Devil has been picked since Joe Caldwell set ASU standard by being picked second in 1964...Jeff Pendergraph was selected 31st as ASU had two players drafted for the first time since 1983...advanced to its first Pac-10 Tournament championship with wins over fifth-seeded Arizona and top-seeded Washington before falling to USC...won four straight Pac-10 road games for the first time since 1980-81 and won five Pac-10 road games for just the fifth time in its 31-years of Pac-10 play...matched its highest ranking on Jan. 26 as it was 14th in both major polls, the first time in 31 years of Pac-10 play ASU was the highest ranked league team in the Associated Press poll...ASU stayed in the AP and ESPN/USA Today Coaches' rankings all season for the first time in school history...ranked 19th in both AP and USA Today final polls, just the second time in school history it placed in the final USA Today rankings (13th in 1994-95). ASU was one of 12 teams that was ranked in every AP poll...sophomore James Harden became the first consensus first-team All-American in ASU history and became the third Sun Devil to earn Pac-10 Player of the Year honors, joining Ike Diogu (2004-05) and Eddie House (1999-2000). It also marked the sixth time a Sun Devil led the league in scoring with his 20.1 points per game and he became the first Pac-10 player in 10 years and just the fifth in 31 years of the 10-team league to lead the league in scoring and steals (1.69)...senior Jeff Pendergraph led the nation in field goal shooting and set a school record by connecting on 66 percent of his shots. He also set ASU career records for games started (120) and played (126)...swept Arizona for the second straight year and then topped the Wildcats in the Pac-10 Tournament for the first five-game win streak against them since a nine-game streak from 1979-83...also has won back-to-back games in Tucson for the first time since 1982-83...swept series with UCLA with a 74-67 win over the No. 11 Bruins on Feb. 12, ASU's third sweep of the Bruins in its 31-year Pac-10 history...swept Oregon for the tenth time in school history (first since 2004-05) and swept Oregon State for the ninth time...swept the Feb. 5-7 Oregon road trip, its first road sweep in Oregon since 2001 and its first road sweep in the league since it swept the Bay Area in 2004-05...won at Stanford (Jan. 2), at UCLA (Jan. 17) and at Arizona (Jan. 21) in a span of 19 days. The last time a Pac-10 team had won at Arizona, at Stanford and at UCLA was in 1980-81 (Oregon State and USC)...won at ninth-ranked UCLA 61-58 in overtime at Pauley Pavilion on Jan. 17, ASU's first top-10 road win since Jan. 31, 1998 and just the third win in Pauley in the past 22 seasons...started 12-1 for the first time in 34 seasons, as the 1974-75 team started 15-1...had an eight-game win streak from Nov. 30-Jan. 2, its third-longest in the past 28 seasons. It also won five straight in Pac-10 play Feb. 5-22, its best Pac-10 win streak since it won five straight in 1994-95...won at Stanford 90-60 on Jan. 2 to win its second straight Pac-10 opener and the third-biggest Pac-10 road win in ASU history...hit a school-record 17 three-pointers in a 90-55 win over Idaho State on Dec. 23...earned preseason rankings from both AP and USA Today for the first time since 1991-92. ASU was ranked 15th in both polls, the second-highest preseason ranking in the AP poll (sixth in 1963-64) and just the fourth appearance in the preseason AP poll and just the second in the USA Today poll...picked second in the Pac-10 preseason media poll, the highest it has been picked. ASU had not been picked higher than ninth in the previous four years.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL (CHARLI TURNER THORNE/13th SEASON)
Finished 26-9 and 15-3 in the Pac-10 (tied for second)...26 wins and 15 Pac-10 wins represented the second-highest win totals in school history (set school records with 31 overall wins and 16 Pac-10 wins in 2006-2007)...finished 12th in the final USA Today/ESPN coaches' poll which matched the program's second highest position in a final poll...made its fifth consecutive NCAA appearance and advanced to the Elite Eight for the second time in three seasons despite losing leading scorer Dymond Simon in the final game of the regular season at Stanford (Mar. 7)...the No. 6 seed in the Trenton Regional, the Sun Devils defeated 11th-seeded Georgia (first round) and third-seeded Florida State (second round) in Duluth, Ga., before traveling to Trenton, N.J., where it defeated second-seeded Texas A&M (regional semifinal) before falling to top-seeded, unbeaten and eventual national champion Connecticut in the regional final...set a program record for consecutive wins with 15, including a 63-41 win over then-No. 9 California on March 5...during their winning streak the Sun Devils won by an average of 18.9 points per game...Charli Turner Thorne joined former Washington head coach Chris Gobrecht and current Stanford head coach Tara VanDerveer as the only other coaches in Pac-10 history (1986-87 to present) to have led their respective schools to at least five consecutive 20-win seasons...Turner Thorne also recorded her 250th ASU win when the Sun Devils defeated Florida State 63-58 in the second round of the 2009 NCAA Tournament...team set single-season school records for most 3-pointers (180) and most blocks (134) and set the single-game school record for most 3-pointers (14, at UC Davis on Dec. 3, 2008)...the 56.4 points ASU's opponents averaged represented the second-lowest per-game average in program history (school record was 54.7 in 2004-05)...set the Pac-10 record for the fewest points allowed in a game in 75-23 win over UC Irvine on December 6 and set the school record for the fewest points allowed in a half (8) in 55-32 win over Washington on Feb. 26...six Pac-10 teams had their lowest single-game point total of the season against the Sun Devils in 2009...finished third in the nation in three-point field goal percentage (.393), fifth in assists per game (16.7) and eighth in field goal percentage (.457)... for the third consecutive year ASU led the Pac-10 with five student-athletes named to the conference's Women's Basketball All-Academic Team (also led the Pac-10 with two players on the first team -- seniors Sybil Dosty and Kate Engelbrecht)...nearly half (9 of 20) of ASU's Pac-10 All-Academic citations the last three years have been of the first- (6) or second-team (3) variety...Dosty was also named the Pac-10's Scholar Athlete of the Year...after becoming the first player to be named the Pac-10's Defensive Player of the Year in 2008, senior guard Briann January once again earned the award in 2009 in addition to first-team All-Pac-10 honors...January concluded her career as the school's all-time leader in assists (538) and free throw percentage (.830) and was also among ASU's all-time leaders in steals (second, 265), free throws (second, 401), three-point field goal percentage (fourth, .399), three-point field goals (fifth, 132) and scoring (seventh, 1,317 points)...in 2008-09 January set the school's single-season record for three-point field goals (65) and also tied the school's single-game record with seven 3-pointers in ASU's win at UC Davis on Dec. 3...January became the first Sun Devil to be selected in the first round of the WNBA's College Draft when the Indiana Fever selected her with the sixth overall pick on April 9th...in only two seasons at ASU senior Sybil Dosty ascended all the way to third on ASU's career blocks list (88)...Dosty's 48 blocks in 2008-09 represented the second-highest single-season total in program history...only Kym Hampton (55 blocks in 1980-81) had more blocks in a season than Dosty...after connecting on her first 22 free throws of the season, junior guard Dymond Simon would go on to set the ASU single-season record for free throw percentage (.882)...ASU's senior class helped the Sun Devils compile a 104-32 record the last four years (.764), including a 59-13 record in Pac-10 games (.820); a 54-8 record in home games (.871); a 33-13 record in road games (.717) and an 8-4 record in NCAA Tournament games (.667)...Kate Engelbrecht, Nia Fanaika, Briann January and Kirsten Thompson joined Reagan Pariseau as the only Sun Devils who have played on four NCAA Tournament teams...Turner Thorne was appointed as the head coach of the 2009 USA Basketball Women's World University Games Team.

Posted a pair of eighth-place finishes in their two championship appearances, scoring 198 points at the Pac-10 Championships before scoring 290 points in the NCAA West Region Championships...Patrick Milloy was the top runner of the men during the season as he was the first across the line in four races, including the championship events where he placed 28th in the Pac-10 (24:32.61) and 42nd in the region (30:23.11)...similar to the women, the men also won the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson after taking second at the season-opening George Kyte Invitational in Flagstaff...academically, the men's team earned recognition from the USTFCCCA...seven Sun Devils also earned Academic All-Pac-10 honors, including a first-team selection for Thomas Petersen and second-team picks for Ben Engelhardt and Daniel Lovell.

WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY (LOUIE QUINTANA/Fifth SEASON)
Advanced to their 11th consecutive appearance in the NCAA Cross Country Championships and placed 14th overall with 381 points...appearance streak at the national meet currently stands as the third-longest in the nation while their streak also ranks as the eighth-longest in NCAA history...earned a berth into the national meet by finishing fourth overall at the NCAA West Region Championships (128 points) after taking fourth in the Pac-10 Championships (105 points)...individually, Kari Hardt led the team much of the year as she was the top finisher in each of the three championship races...she earned her first All-America honor by placing 39th overall at the NCAA Championships (20:42.10), was an All-West Region selection by placing 10th (20:18.96) at the regional meet and was a second-team All-Pac-10 honoree for finishing ninth in the league meet (20:26.57)...Hardt also was one of two women to win an individual race on the season as she captured the title at the Roy Griak Invitational in Minnesota (21:18.40) two weeks after Ali Kielty won the Dave Murray Invitational in Tucson (13:39.62) to lead the women to the team title as well...Kielty also was an award winner as she was a second-team All-Pac-10 honoree while joining Jenna Kingma as a member of the All-West Region team...academically, Kielty earned recognition, along with the team, from the USTFCCCA while Kielty, Kingma, Angela Spadafino and Maureen Stringham were Academic All-Pac-10 honorees...Kingma was inaugural recipient of the Pac-10 Scholar-Athlete of the Year for Women's Cross Country, presented by Toyo Tires.

Finished 5-7 overall, 4-5 in the Pac-10, which tied for sixth...tied an NCAA record with four defensive touchdowns in 34-9 win over UCLA on Nov. 28, as Paul `Unga returned a fumble for a score while Travis Goethel, Troy Nolan and Mike Nixon all took interceptions to the end zone...Nixon tied for the Pac-10 lead with five interceptions on the season, and he finished with a team-high 90 tackles...Nolan had four interceptions, giving him 10 in his two seasons as a Sun Devil, and he scored three touchdowns on defense during the year...wide receiver Michael Jones led the team with 61 catches for 744 yards...Nolan and Jones were named second-team All-Pac-10 while eight other players received honorable mention...team recorded first shutout since 1996 in 31-0 win over Washington State on Nov. 15...defensive end Dexter Davis had 11 sacks, his second consecutive season with double-digit sacks, and his 26.5 career sacks ranks fourth on the school's all-time list...quarterback Rudy Carpenter started all 12 games and finished his Arizona State career with 43 consecutive starts...he also became the school's all-time leader in pass completions, finishing with 799 career completions to surpass Andrew Walter's record of 777...he also finished his career second on ASU's all-time lists in pass attempts, touchdown passes and passing yards, and his 26 wins as a starting quarterback tie him for second in school history, behind only Danny White's 30 wins...true freshman defensive tackle Lawrence Guy had 44 tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery return for a touchdown, helping him earn Freshman All-American honors from the Football Writers Association of America, Sporting News, PhilSteele.com and CollegeFootballNews.com...kicker Thomas Weber made 19 of his 25 field goal attempts, and his 43 career field goals are the most by a Sun Devil in his first two seasons...had two players selected in the 2009 NFL Draft - Paul Fanaika (seventh round/213th overall by Philadelphia) and Troy Nolan (seventh round/223rd overall by Houston).

Tied for fifth at the NCAA Championships in Toledo, Ohio, with its second-place stroke play finish and then a quarterfinal match play loss to eventual NCAA champion Texas A&M...ASU has made 16 NCAA Championship appearances in Randy Lein's 17 seasons, tied for the second-best mark in the nation, and has finished in the top six nine times... Finished 8-8-4 (2-6-1 in Pac-10 which tied for seventh) under coach Kevin Boyd who led the team to a .500 record in 2008 despite losing six players to injury...all six players (included four significant contributors) missed at least 75 percent of the team's games...defeated seventh-ranked and defending national champion USC 1-0 on Oct. 19, 2008...the program's first victory over a Top-10 team since 2001...also defeated No. 20 UC Santa Barbara and recorded ties at seventh-ranked Texas and at No. 22 California...six of the team's eight losses were by a goal, including the final two games of the season, which were both on the road and both in overtime...faced eight ranked teams in 2008, including four top-10 teams - No. 3 UCLA, No. 5 Stanford, No. 7 Texas and No. 7 USC...junior defender Liz Harkin earned first-team All-Pac-10...offensively, the Sun Devils were led for the second consecutive season by Volpe who paced the team in goals (nine), points (20), game winning goals (three) and shots (45)...despite being injured for much of the season, junior goalkeeper Briana Silvestri broke her own school single-season GAA record (0.77) while her six shutouts tied for third most in ASU history...Silvestri finished third in the Pac-10 in saves per game (4.38), fourth in GAA (0.77), save percentage (.843) and shutouts per game (0.38), tied for fourth in shutouts (six) and fifth in saves (70)...senior Kylla Sjoman finished her career tied for eighth on ASU's all-time list for career assists (15)...ten players were named to the Pac-10's All-Academic Team, including three first-team honorees...following the season Harkin won a gold medal as a member of the USA's U20 Women's World Cup team.

Finished with a 47-19 record and a 10-11 mark in the Pac-10 (sixth place) and reached the Women's College World Series for the fourth consecutive season, a program record while going 7-3 in the NCAA Tournament...the WCWS appearance was the program's eighth...claimed two All-Americans with Kaitlin Cochran garnering her fourth first-team All-America award and Jessica Mapes claiming her first All-America award, taking third-team honors...also had four named to the NFCA All-West Region First Team: Kaitlin Cochran, Jessica Mapes, Krista Donnenwirth and Hillary Bach...Kaitlin Cochran was also named Pac-10 Player of the Year for the third time, making her the only player in Pac-10 history to win Newcomer of the Year followed with three consecutive Player of the Year awards...Cochran also finished her career at ASU holding nearly every ASU single-season and career offensive record, including single-season batting average (.492, 2007), home runs (20, 2009), hits (92, 2007), doubles (19, 2008) and intentional walks (29, 2008 an NCAA record)...her career records include batting average (.445), home runs (69, also sixth place in Pac-10 history), RBIs (230, tied for 10th place in Pac-10 history), hits (315, 11th in Pac-10 history) and doubles (54, 10th place in Pac-10 history)...she is also third all-time in Pac-10 history with runs scored (272) as well as third in Pac-10 and NCAA history in walks (235) and third in NCAA history in intentional walks (64)...Cochran was also selected as the No. 1 Draft Pick in the NPF draft, the second No. 1 pick in ASU history with Katie Burkhart in 2008 being the first...for her amazing career both on the field and in the classroom, Cochran was also given the Pac-10 conference medal...freshman pitcher Hillary Bach posted a phenomenal season going 31-11 on the year with a 2.82 ERA...her 31 wins is good for fourth on the ASU single-season list and the best record posted by a freshman...Jessica Mapes in addition to her All-America play on the field was also named an ESPN the Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII selection with teammate Kaitlin Cochran as well as being named the Pac-10 Softball Scholar-Athlete of the Year, which also helped her win the NCAA Spring Postgraduate award and place her as one of the top-10 finalists for the Lowe's Senior C.L.A.S.S. award...in June, two Sun Devils were also named to the USA Softball team, with Katie Burkhart and Kaiitlin Cochran set to represent ASU on a national stage...the team set school records for total attendance (49,759) and average attendance (1,1213).

MEN'S TRACK AND FIELD (GREG KRAFT/14th SEASON)
INDOOR: Team finished fifth at the NCAA Indoor Championships with 25 points, just four points from a trophy finish (top four)...finished fifth in the MPSF Indoor Championships with 76.5 points...at the national meet, Ryan Whiting and Jason Lewis both captured individual national titles and combined to score all 25 points for the team...Whiting successfully defended his shot put crown from 2008 with a winning toss of 66-01.75 while Lewis won his first national title with a huge toss of 75-00.75 in the weight throw...Lewis, who recorded a personal-best mark in the weight throw by over three feet, also placed fourth in the shot put with a mark of 62-10.75 to earn All-America honors in a second event at the national meet...also earning All-America honors was true freshman Mason McHenry, who placed ninth in the 800m run (1:49.85)...at the conference level, Whiting and Lewis also swept the throws as Whiting won the shot put with a mark of 65-07.75 and Lewis took the weight throw with a toss of 70-09.75...McHenry won his first title as a collegiate runner by winning the 800m event in 1:49.00... the relay of Joel Phillip, Darryl Elston, Justin Kremer and Donald Sanford combined to run 3:08.74 to win the 4x400m relay...in the all-time top five, four records were set and several other marks recorded by the men in 2009...McHenry ran 1:47.74 to take the national lead mid-way through the indoor season and broke the school record while Nectaly Barbosa also bettering the previous mark (1:49.51) with his run of 1:49.44...in the field, Lewis' bettered his previous weight throw mark with his NCAA performance and increased his margin to nearly eight feet over former record-holder Mika Laiho's best of 67-02.75 (1996)...Lewis also moved into fifth on the shot put list at 63-04.00 while Jeff Helwig took over third in the weight throw with his toss of 62-02.50...in the heptathlon, rookies Duggan Grant and Alexander Wentz each cleared 14-11.00 to set the heptathlon pole vault record while Wentz set the heptathlon 1,000m run record in 2:46.20...academically, Lewis was honored as the 2009 USTFCCCA Men's Indoor Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year...and was one of seven men that garnered Academic All-MPSF honors.
OUTDOOR: Team finished eighth overall with 29 points at the NCAA Outdoor Championships after taking fourth in the NCAA West Region Championships (62 points)... placed sixth at the Pac-10 Championships with 87 points... defeated both intrastate rivals Arizona (109-89) and Northern Arizona (116-68)... at the outdoor national meet, ASU claimed one individual national title with three men combing to earn five All-America honors... Whiting completed a sweep of the national titles in the shot put as he won his first outdoor crown with a toss of 65-11.75... he nearly added a title in the discus, but was passed in the final round of competition to finish second by three inches (196-02)... Lewis also earned All-America honors in a pair of events as he took sixth in both the discus (189-08) and hammer (220-06) to give him four All-America certificates on the season... newcomer Brandon Bethke took fourth in the 5,000m run in 14:08.00 to earn his first national accolade with the Sun Devils... the junior led the nation throughout the season with a personal-best and school-record time of 13:27.79 in the event... Whiting added crowns in the shot put at both the NCAA West Region Championships (68-10.50) and the Pac-10 Championships (66-10.00) while Bethke also was victorious in the 5,000m run at the Pac-10 meet (13:52.73)... both men were recognized as Pac-10 performers of the week with Whiting earning Pac-10 Men's Field Athlete of the Week honors on May 4 and Bethke garnering Pac-10 Men's Track Athlete of the Week honors on April 20... three school records fell during the season with Bethke bettering the 5,000m time by nearly 10 seconds (previous was 13:37.71) and Whiting collecting the discus (203-08) and shot put (68-10.50) records... Whiting broke Gary Williky's previous record of 203-06 in the discus as well as his mark of 68-02.50 in the shot put... Lewis moved up to second in the hammer with a toss of 223-07 to become only the second to throw past 210-feet... he also moved into fifth in the discus with a mark of 192-04... McHenry ran 1:48.25 in the 800m run to record the sixth-best time in school history while Bethke ran 3:42.82 for 1,500m to move into fourth all-time... David Mehlhorn broke the nine-minute mark in the steeplechase and ran the eighth-best time of 8:54.88 while Patrick Milloy's time of 30:25.43 ranks as the sixth-best 10,000m time... Corey Phallen cleared 16-11.50 in the pole vault to move into the ninth position on the list and surpass his current coach Ron Barela (10th at 16-08.00)... academically, seven men were selected to the USTFCCCA All-Academic team... the program also had 10 individuals selected to the Academic All-Pac-10 teams, including a program-record five first team selections: Ben Engelhardt, Helwig, Kremer, Lewis and Thomas Petersen.

WOMEN'S TRACK AND FIELD (GREG KRAFT/14th SEASON)
INDOOR: Finished fifth at the NCAA Championships with 30 points, one point from placing fourth and earning a trophy...placed third at the MPSF Indoor Championships with 78 points...at the NCAA meet, two national runner-up finishes were recorded, including Sarah Stevens in the shot put (58-02.50) and the 4x400m relay (3:34.30) of Jeavon Benjamin, Shauntel Elcock, Dominique' Maloy and Charonda Williams...Williams earned two more All-America honors in the meet by placing third in the 200m (22.89) and sixth in the 60m (7.32)...Stevens added a fourth-place showing in the weight throw (69-03.25) to earn the 12th All-America honor of her career...for her outstanding season, Stevens was selected as the USTFCCCA Women's West Region Field Athlete of the Year and was a candidate for the national athlete of the year honor...at the MPSF Championships, Stevens was selected as the MPSF Female Athlete of the Year after winning the shot put and weight throw for the third year in a row...her victory in the shot put gave her a sweep of the event in all four years she competed...also crowned champions at the MPSF meet was Williams, who swept the 60m and 200m events...Williams broke the school records in the 60m (7.30) and the 200m (22.89)...her 200m time came in the finals of the NCAA Indoor Championships and shattered the previous mark of 23.50 set in 1991 by Maicel Malone...the 4x400m relay's time at the national meet also ranks as one of the best in ASU history, standing fourth all-time...in the weight throw, Stevens became only the second woman to surpass the 70-foot barrier with a toss of 70-10.00 earlier in the year...freshman Cara Carpenter cleared 12-07.50 to rank fifth on the all-time pole vault list to round out the marks added to the top five list during the season...academically, six women were honored by the MPSF, including Ali Kielty, Maloy, Cj Navarro, Lisa Navarro, Lisa Nelson and Stevens.
OUTDOOR: Scored 41 points at the NCAA Outdoor Championships to finish third overall to capture their seventh trophy (top four finish) in the past eight national meets...won the NCAA West Region Championship (98 points) for the third year in a row after taking third in the Pac-10 Championships (112 points)...defeated intrastate rivals Arizona (107-93) and Northern Arizona (134-51) in dual action at home...at the national meet, eight women earned All-America honors with three national runner-up finishes...Stevens collected a trio of All-America honors by placing second in both the shot put (57-08.25) and discus (177-01) with a third-place showing in the hammer (217-07) to bring her to a program-record 15 career All-America honors...she ended her career with 98 points scored at the NCAA events (indoor and outdoor)...Williams took second in the 200m dash (22.84) and was sixth in the 100m (11.37)...she helped the 4x100m relay of Maloy, Kayla Sanchez and Jasmine Chaney to finish sixth as well (43.78)...the 4x400m relay (3:31.62) of Elcock, Chaney, Maloy and Benjamin placed fifth overall...Maloy also earned All-America honors in the 200m dash...redshirt freshman Cj Navarro earned All-America honors in her first national appearance as she took eighth in the discus (162-10)...Stevens (shot put & discus) and Williams (100m & 200m) won regional titles in individual events while Williams joined with Maloy, Sanchez and Chaney to win the 4x100m relay...the same group also won the same crowns at the Pac-10 Championships...Williams' sweep of the 100m and 200m events at the Pac-10 meet made her the first woman in conference history to sweep both races in back-to-back meets and just the second woman to sweep the short sprints twice in a career...with 28 points scored at the Pac-10 meet, Stevens was named the Pac-10 Female Athlete of the Meet...she also was named the Pac-10 Women's Field Athlete of the Year while Williams was selected the Pac-10 Women's Track Athlete of the Year...following the collegiate season, Williams placed fourth in the 200m dash at the U.S. Outdoor Championships and earned a berth on Team USA for the IAAF World Championships in Berlin (August 2009)...she ran a school-record 22.55 in the semifinals before running a wind-aided (+3.4 mps) 22.39 in the finals to punch her ticket to the world event...Williams, who entered the season with PR of 23.09 in the 200m, lowered her best on seven occasions throughout the year and broke a 19 year-old record (22.91) while her time of 11.14 in the 100m broke a 26 year-old mark in the event (11.33) rookies Cj Navarro (redshirt) and Sanchez (true) both recorded the 10th-best marks in school history in their first years, including Sanchez in the 400m hurdles (59.80) and Navarro in the discus (169-3) and hammer (162-10)...rookie Carpenter became only the fourth woman to clear 4-meters in competition to tie for the third-best clearance in the pole vault...the women's relays put up fast times all season, including three of the top-10 marks in the 4x100m relay and one of the Top 10 in the 4x400m...the group of Maloy, Sanchez, Chaney and Williams' times 43.78 at the NCAA Championships (sixth-place finish) ranks as the second-best while the team of Maloy, Elcock, Chaney and Williams ran 43.92 earlier in the year for the third-best...those two times join the record of 43.58 as the only sub-44 times in program history...the 4x400m time of 3:31.62 at the NCAA meet (fifth-place) ranks as the seventh-best all-time...academically, Stevens was selected ESPN The Magazine First Team Academic All-American and joined Ali Kielty on the Academic All-District VIII team...Stevens, the 2009 Pac-10 Women's Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year, presented by Toyo Tires, was one of 11 women selected to the Academic All-Pac-10 list and was one of five to earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors...the women's team was named the USTFCCCA Women's Indoor Scholar Team of the Year for the third year in a row...Stevens also earned a postgraduate scholarship from the NCAA.

VOLLEYBALL (JASON WATSON/FIRST SEASON)
ASU finished the 2008 season with a 13-18 record and eighth in the Pac-10 at 4-14...senior Margie Giordano and sophomore Sarah Reaves combined for 797 kills on the year for 57 percent of the Sun Devil offense...Reaves led the offense with 431 kills and beat her career-best 28 kills in a match with 30 against Western Kentucky on September 20, which was also the third highest total in Pac-10 play in the 2008 season as well as re-setting the ASU single-match record she set in 2007 with 28 against Oregon...Reaves also collected 15 double-doubles on the season, pushing her career total to 23...Giordano also capped off her career with 1,312 career kills, which placed her fourth in active leaders in 2008 and seventh in ASU career history...Giordano also reached another career landmark on September 19 as she collected her 1,000 career kill, a feat only eight other players in ASU history have accomplished...of the four tournaments ASU competed in Sarah Reaves and Margie Giordano were named to all four All-Tournament Teams with Marina Mercer being named to the Portland Nike Invite All-Tournament Team as well...Mercer also pushed her career assists total to 3,598, which places her third in ASU career records as well as third in active Pac-10 leaders...Sun Devils won both the ASU Sheraton Classic and the ASU Sheraton Invitational during tournament play...sophomore Sarah Reaves earned honorable mention All-Pac-10 for the second consecutive year...Sonja Markanovich earned honorable mention Pac-10 All-Freshman honors...two Sun Devils earned Academic All-Pac-10 honors, including first-team member Marina Mercer and honorable mention Sarah Reaves.

Finished 13-15 overall and went 0-7 in the MPSF to place eighth in the conference...went 0-3 at the MPSF Championships to place eighth...ranked 10th in final Top 20 poll, after moving as high as fifth in the March 4 poll...for the first time in program history, the team was ranked in the top 10 all season...senior Addison McGrath was named first-team All-MPSF for the second consecutive season, after becoming the first player in ASU history to receive first-team all-league honors in 2008...McGrath was also a second-team All-America selection, while sophomore Lynlee Smith received honorable mention All-America honors...McGrath scored 63 goals and added 26 assists on the season...she finished her ASU career as the school's all-time leader with 237 goals, 348 points and 66 multiple-goal games, and she ranks second on the ASU career list with 111 assists...McGrath was one of two Sun Devils to earn MPSF Mikasa Co-Player of the Week honors during the season, as she did so on January 26 after scoring 13 goals in three games at the season-opening Michigan Invitational...Smith earned the conference's Player of the Week award on March 30, after she scored 22 goals in four games, including a single-game program-record-tying seven against Cal Lutheran, at the ASU Invitational...Smith had an outstanding debut season after coming to Tempe from New Zealand, leading the team with 65 goals and 90 points on the year...McGrath and Smith became the first pair of Sun Devil teammates to both surpass 60 goals in the same season...juniors Kelly Phelps and Bonnie Miles continued to climb the school record books, as Phelps ended the season ranked fourth in ASU history with 112 goals, fifth with 155 points and seventh with 43 assists, while Miles finished up 2009 fourth in program history with 72 assists and eighth with 124 points...sophomore Nikki Unbehaun was one of the most improved players on the team, as her 33 goals more than tripled her freshman season total of 10...freshman Mariam Salloum had one of the better rookie campaigns in Sun Devil history, scoring 25 goals and adding 26 assists...the team's 6-0 start was the longest winning streak to start a season in the program's eight-year history, topping the 4-0 start by the 2006 squad...set a new school record by averaging 10.50 goals per game on the season, and they also set a new single-game ASU goal-scoring record in a 25-6 win over Cal Lutheran on March 29.

WRESTLING (THOM ORTIZ/EIGHTH SEASON)
Finished 5-8 overall and 3-4 in Pac-10 duals...placed fifth in the Pac-10 Championships before tying for 20th at the NCAA Championships...at the Conference meet, advanced three individuals to the finals with Anthony Robles (125) capturing his first Pac-10 title...Chris Drouin (141) and Eric Starks (174) also advanced to the finals and placed second...at the NCAA Championships, both Robles and Drouin earned their first All-America honors as they placed fourth (at 125) and sixth (at 141), respectively...Robles posted a stellar 29-8 record on the year and led the team in wins (tied), tournament wins (21), technical falls (10) and pins (nine) and also posted the fastest fall on the team in 32 seconds...Drouin tied for the team lead in wins with his 29-9 overall record and was the team leader with eight wins by major decision...Robles and Drouin both won titles at the Reno Tournament of Champions while Robles took third at the Las Vegas Invitational and seventh at the Midlands with Drouin placing fifth in Vegas...at the Pac-10 Championships, all 10 Sun Devils placed in the top eight of the tournament with three reaching the finals, including champion Robles and runners-up Drouin and true freshman Eric Starks (174)...of those 10 that competed in the league tournament, only Robles and Drouin (second tournaments each) were not making their first appearances in the event...once again, a large number of wrestlers made their collegiate and/or ASU debuts with the team during the season as 12 different Sun Devils competed in their first match for ASU with nine of those wrestlers winning once on the year...of those 12, three were true freshmen and eight others were redshirt freshmen...in team competition, the Sun Devils opened the season with a 3-0 record, marking the 17th time in program history - and the second year in a row - that ASU opened the year with a 3-0 or better mark at home...the team also blanked Portland State, 40-0, in a home dual, marking the 25th time ASU has shut out an opponent and its first since 2002...academically, three men earned honors from the Pac-10, including a first-team selection for Imanibom Etukeren...away from the team, two with ties to the program captured national titles, including Kelsey Campbell and Danny Felix...Campbell on the women's freestyle title at 59kg (130 lbs.) at the U.S. Senior National Championships before taking second at the U.S. World Team Trials and winning the 2009 Canada Cup...Felix won the challenger tournament at the U.S. World Team Trials at 55kg (121 lbs.) before winning two of three matches in the tournament final to earn a place on his first U.S. National Team and will compete at the 2009 World Championships in Denmark (September).
