Tillman Named Burger King Scholarship Award Winner

TEMPE, Ariz.-- Arizona State senior linebacker Pat Tillman has been selected a 1997 Burger King College Football Scholarship award winner. Arizona State University will receive a $10,000 donation in Tillman's name to the school's general scholarship fund. Tillman is the Sun Devils second leading tackler with 43 during the 1997 season and carries a 3.82 GPA at Arizona State while majoring in marketing.

For the third straight year, Burger King Corporation is donating a total of $1 million to general scholarship funds in honor of college football seniors who maintain high academic standards, excel on the field and are actively involved in the community.

Four of these winners, one from each college football division will be selected as finalists for the 1997 Burger King Vincent Draddy Scholar-Athlete of the Year and earn their school an additional $25,000 donation. In December, Burger King will announce its scholar athlete of the year at the National Football Foundation dinner and will donate a $100,000 scholarship endowment to the award winner's school. The Burger King College Football Scholarship Program is the largest of its kind in college football.
