Arizona State: A two-time NCAA qualifier, seeks first All-America honors this season…will start at 174 pounds after earning another year of eligibility from the NCAA (medical redshirt last year). 2001-02: Applied for, and was granted, a medical redshirt from the NCAA. 2000-01: ASU’s starter at 174 pounds, compiling an overall record of 24-14 and a dual record of 11-3…qualified for the NCAA Championships for the second straight season, but failed to place going 1-2…took third at the Pac-10 Championships, rebounding from a second round loss to rack up two technical fall victories…placed fourth at the California Open and fifth at the Reno Tournament of Champions…tallied a 2-8 record versus ranked opponents…upset No. 6 Nathan Coy of Oregon State 5-4, Jan. 26, and No. 9 Perry Parks of Iowa State 5-1, Feb. 11…led team in technical falls with five and tied for team lead with 10 major decisions…finished the season ranked 15th by Amateur Wrestling News and 16th by InterMat…earned Pac-10 All-Academic honorable mention honors. 1999-2000: Qualified for the NCAA Championships in his first season as a Sun Devil after transferring from North Idaho College where he was a junior college national champion…finished fourth at the Pac-10 Championships after a narrow 6-5 defeat at the hands of Cal State Bakersfield’s 11th-ranked Andy Varner…shared the starting spot at 174 pounds with teammate R.D. Pursell, whom he defeated in the finals of the NJCAA Tournament last year…compiled an overall record of 18-16, including a 12-13 mark at 174 pounds and a 8-3 mark at 184…posted a 3-6 dual record at 174 pounds and 2-1 at 184…won four matches by major decision, two by fall and two by technical fall…faced four ranked opponents…finished fourth at the California Open and Reno Tournament of Champions.

North Idaho College: Wrestled for two seasons under coach Pat Whitcomb…helped lead his team to the 1998 national junior college title and a runner-up finish in 1999…won the 1999 national junior college title at 174 pounds in 1999…earned team MVP honors…compiled a 46-9 record in two seasons.

High School: A 1997 graduate of Polson High School in Polson, Mont…finished his prep career with a 133-13 record…captured four division titles and two state crowns in wrestling…finished third as a sophomore and fifth as a freshman at the Montana state wrestling championships…served as a team captain as a junior and a senior…lettered four times in wrestling…also lettered in football and track…was a two-time all-conference selection on the gridiron and finished second at the state track championship in the pole vault…was coached by his father Bill and uncle Bob Owen.
