Injured his left wrist in November of 2000 and had two surgeries on it before coming to Arizona State. Played in 17 games in his junior year (2001-2002) but had to wear a cast on the wrist which made it tough to catch and dribble. Originally signed with ASU in the fall of 1998 signing period but attended Mesa Community College and Compton College before coming to Arizona State in 2001.
Played in 18 games in senior year as ASU advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 1995. Averaged five minutes per game and played six minutes against Memphis in NCAA Tournament first-round win. Saw career-high 11 minutes vs. Washington State on Jan. 11.
In his junior season, he played in 17 games and averaged 6.2 minutes. Shot 55.6 percent from the field (15-of-27) and averaged 2.1 points. Did not see action until the Dec. 1 Prairie View A & M game due to his wrist injury and posted eight points at Oregon in Pac-10 opener on Dec. 20 in nine minutes. Also had six points at No. 25 USC on Feb. 14 in season-high 10 minutes.
A 1999 graduate of Westchester High School, he was one of the top 60 players at the 1999 Nike All-American Camp, played in the Dada All-Star Classic at Pauley Pavilion in April of 1999 and was one of California's 34 players listed in USA Today's preseason state-by-state listing. A Street & Smith's honorable mention All-American as his team won the state and city championship in 1998 and 1999. He averaged 12 points and 10 boards in senior year. Father's name is Herdes and mother is Telina and has sisters Nicole, Celanese and Alexis.
