Player Bio: Kyle Schack



In his inaugural season as assistant coach with the Sun Devils, Kyle Schack was successful in helping numerous athletes drop their times. Dealing primarily with the distance events, Schack helped lead senior C.J. Nuess to a Pac-10 Championship in the 1,650 free. Under Schack's guidance, Nuess also earned All-American accolades in the 400 IM and honorable mention All-American status in the 1,650 freestyle. In the 1,650 free, Nuess dropped a remarkable 12 plus seconds off his previous personal best and is now No. 2 on ASU's all-time list with a time of 14:55.84 and first in the 400 IM at 3:44.51. Schack also helped freshman Shannon Garrett place 11th in the Pac-10 in the 1,650 freestyle.

Schack coached Israeli Olympian Gal Nevo, who reached the semi-finals of the Olympic Games, during the 2007-08 school year. With Schack as his coach, Nevo broke two Israeli national records at the Olympics in the 200 IM (1:59.66) and 400 IM (4:14.03). His previous bests were 2:03.13 and 4:24.07. He finished 11th in the 400 IM and 13th in the 200 IM in Beijing.

Schack joined the Sun Devil swimming team as an assistant coach in 2007. The Huntington Woods, Mich., native came to Tempe after a season as the head coach of Alma College in Alma, Mich., and assistant coach of Longhorn Aquatics. He also earned experience as a staff member of the 2007 USA Swimming Zone Select Camp.

Prior to his head coaching experience at Alma College, Schack was the assistant coach for Harvard University's men's swimming team as well as a senior and junior coach fro the Day and Ocean State Squids in Boston. Schack also served as West Virginia University's graduate assistant from 2003-2004 where he earned his M.B.A.

Schack began his coaching career as a volunteer assistant coach at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and as a junior coach for the Schenectady Swim Club.

Schack earned his bachelor's degree in economics from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y.
