2007 (Freshman): Did not receive his clearance from the NCAA until Pac-10 play began in late March, yet still managed to set an ASU freshman record with 11 saves...pitched in 21 games as the closer, going 2-2 with 11 saves...struck out 22 batters while only walking eight...had a 4.50 ERA in 30 innings pitched...also showed some prowess with the bat, hitting .375 in 16 at bats...had six hits, four of them doubles, and knocked in five runs...finished tied for fourth in the Pac-10 with his 11 saves...played in the Arizona Collegiate League during the summer.
High School: A dominating high school pitcher for Arizona power Chaparral...lettered four times in baseball and three times in football...named First Team All-State and All-Region following senior season...twice led Chaparral to State Championships...went 12-0 as a senior, striking out 76 and recording a 1.40 ERA...also hit .429 with eight home runs and 37 RBI...was the winning pitcher in the state title game...as a junior, went 6-1 on the mound, striking out 52 with a 1.70 ERA...also batted .432 with 24 RBI in 24 games...helped lead his summer team, the Arizona Firebirds, to the 2006 Connie Mack World Series championship...he was named MVP of the series.
