SUN DEVIL NOTES AND STATS FOR STANFORD TILT 
OFF TO VEGAS
The Sun Devil men's hoops team (20-11; 9-9) meets Stanford in the opening round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday, March 13, at noon PT on the Pac-12 Network. The Sun Devils went 4-4 against the top five teams in the league, with a sweep of Colorado and single wins over UCLA (1-1) and California (1-0). ASU has notched its fourth 20-win season under Coach Sendek in his seven years, something that ASU did just three times in the prior 25 seasons to his arrival in spring of 2006.
CONFERENCE HONORS
Hometown product Jahii Carson earned Pac-12 Co-Freshman of the Year honors with Shabazz Muhammad of UCLA, joining Sun Devils Ike Diogu (2002-03), Jamal Faulkner (1990-91) and Byron Scott (1979-80) to earn the honor. He also earned first-team All-Pac-12, something that is not easy to do for a freshman...senior Carrick Felix earned second-team All-Pac-12 and earned a spot on the five-man Pac-12 All-Defensive Team along with junior Jordan Bachynski, who enters the Pac-12 Tournament needing three blocked shots to break the Pac-12 and Sun Devil season record of 115 set by Sun Devil Mario Bennett in 1994-95.
REMINDER JUST HOW MUCH CARRICK IMPROVED
Last season, Carrick Felix had zero double-doubles. This year, he leads the league with 12 on the year and in Pac-12 games with nine...in Pac-12 games he averaged 13.9 points and 8.7 rebounds. Only Stanford's Dwight Powell (15.6 ppg. and 8.8 rpg.) is equal in those numbers...in overall games Powell and Carrick were the only players at Carrick's 14.2 ppg. and 8.2 rpg...Carrick is shooting .505 from the field this year after shooting .411 in his first two seasons...he averaged 2.8 rebounds in his first two seasons but is at 8.2 this season...he shot .284 from the three-point stripe his first two years but is at .361 this season.
HOTEL GAMES
Jahii Carson averaged 21.2 points in the 12 games away from home this season, as ASU played 10 road games and two neutral site games. He averaged 38.1 minutes and shot .516 from the field (97-of-188). He had seven 20+ point games away from home, including two of the top Sun Devil freshman scoring games in history with 32 at Washington (Feb. 2) and 30 vs. Creighton in Las Vegas (Nov. 24).

BLOCK PARTY
ASU has a school-record 195 blocks in 31 games (6.3 pg). UCLA holds the Pac-12 record with 199 in 2010-11. In Coach Sendek's first six seasons (197 games) at ASU, the Sun Devils had nine blocks four times. It has had at least nine blocks nine times this season. An overlooked statistic for junior Jordan Bachynski is keeping it in play. Of his 113 blocks, 70 have resulted in possession for ASU. He has 174 career blocks and the Sun Devil career record is 191, held by Mario Bennett from 1991-95.

ASSISTS
Jahii Carson has 154 assists, as only nine Pac-12 freshmen have notched more. The list is below, and none of them averaged more than the 13.5 points per game Mike Bibby did in 1996-97...his 154 assists is ninth on the Sun Devil season list and a freshman record. Next up on Sun Devil list is Lynn Collins (156 in 1990-91) and Derek Glasser (158 in 2009-10 and 162 in 2008-09).
NOTE ON JAHII'S NUMBERS
Jahii Carson is averaging 17.7 points and 5.0 assists and only one freshman in the past sixteen years has averaged 17 points and five assists, as Ben Woodside produced those digits in 2005-06 for North Dakota State (17.5 points and 5.1 assists). Previous to Woodside, the last freshmen to notch those digits was Shaheen Holloway of Seton Hall back in 1996-97, when he finished at 17.3 points per game and 6.3 assists.
JAHII A FINALIST
Jahii Carson was named one of eight finalists for the Integris Wayman Tisdale Freshman of Year Award. He was joined by Anthony Bennett (UNLV), Garry Harris (Michigan State), Ben McLemore (Kansas), Shabazz Muhammad (UCLA), Nerlens Noel (Kentucky), Marcus Smart (Oklahoma State) and Rasheed Sulaimon (Duke).
CARRICK NOTES
Carrick Felix has been solid in the past 13 games with seven double-doubles. He is averaging 13.7 points and 8.5 rebounds in that time and has 18 steals. He had nine double-doubles in Pac-12 play and 12 overall both of which are tops in the league.
PAC-12 ROAD TRIP? NO PROBLEM
Be hard to find a better Pac-12 road player than Jahii Carson this year, as he averaged 20.8 points in 38.4 minutes and shot .514 (75-of-146) from the floor and had six 20-point games in nine Pac-12 roadies.
IRON MAN
Jahii Carson in Pac-12 games led the league with 38.3 per game while Carrick Felix is second at 37.7. Jon Gilling is seventh at 34.8.
DON'T WANT TO FORGET THIS
In ASU's Feb. 2 96-92 loss at Washington, Jahii Carson gave the Huskies 32 points, tied for fourth-most by a freshmen in a Pac-12 road game. Only O.J. Mayo (twice) and Roberto Nelson of Oregon State have had more. Jahii had 22 points in the second half (8-of-14 from floor) with three assists, two steals and no turnovers and his stats in the final 5:01 were ridiculous: 12 points, two assists, one steal and perfect in two three-pointers and four free throws and he had his first dunk.

Jahii Carson is averaging a Pac-12 best 36.8 minutes, the best mark by a freshman in Sun Devil history (the Beard lighting up NBA averaged 34.1 in 2007-08) and most by a Pac-12 frosh since O.J. Mayo averaged 36.9 in 2007-08...has set the school freshman mark for assists with 154, breaking the 28-year old mark of 114 set by Bobby Thompson in 1983-84....has 14 20-point games, the only Sun Devil freshmen with more is James Harden (16 in 2007-08).
CLOSE GAMES STAT
Eleven of ASU's 18 Pac-12 games were two-possession games (six points or less)....in 18 Pac-12 games, the scoring margin is exactly 0.1 per game in favor of ASU as the Sun Devils average 66.7 points per game and the opponents 66.6...here is an every crazier one...Six of ASU's eight Pac-10 road games had margins of one point (twice), five points (twice), four points (twice) and three points (once).
ABOUT THE LINEUP
After using 23 starting lineups in the past two seasons and having 14 Sun Devils make a start in that time, ASU was one of six teams to have used the same starting lineup in every game this season...until Feb. 16 at Colorado. Chris Colvin started in place of Evan Gordon. How did Gordon do off the bench? If you consider 14 points, four three-pointers in 30 minutes and hitting a game-winner at the buzzer a good day, he did quite well.
SCORER
Evan Gordon (brother of NBA guard Eric) with 17 points at Oregon on Jan. 14 reached the 1,000-point mark in his college career. He averaged 14.4 points in 2010-11 (460 points) and 12.0 in his freshman year of 2009-10 (372 points) and has 310 points this year (10.0 pg). His 29-point effort vs. Sacramento State on Dec. 1 is a career high including his two years at Liberty as he has 12 20-point games. He made 112 three-pointers in his two-year career at Liberty and led Liberty in scoring (14.4 ppg., eighth in Big South) in his sophomore year (2010-11) before transferring to ASU. He now has 1,142 career points.
CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT
Herb Sendek is 19-19 (.500) in 19 years of conference tournament action. He went 13-10 (.565) in his ten years at NC State, 4-3 (.571) in three years at Miami (Ohio) and is 2-6 (.286) at ASU...in first-round action, he is 12-7 (.632)...8-2 at NCSU, 3-0 at Miami and 1-5 at ASU...Wolfpack became first team to knock off No. 1 seed in ACC Tournament in consecutive years when it beat second-ranked Maryland (2002) and ninth-ranked Wake Forest (2003)...ASU is 5-14 (.263) in the Pac-10 Tournament...since tournament returned in 2002, ASU has gone 1-9 in first-round games and 2-10 overall. It didn't qualify in 2004 (top eight). Herb Sendek is 2-6, Rob Evans was 0-4.
STANFORD SERIES
Stanford leads the series 43-31 that according to ASU records started in 1957-58...ASU is 4-10 under Coach Sendek vs. the Cardinal...ASU lost the first three, won four of the next five but has dropped the past six...ASU swept the regular season series from Stanford in 2009-10 but fell 70-61 in the Pac-10 Tournament.
