AUBURN, Ala. – Led by senior Rebecca Ejdervik, the 21st-ranked Arizona State women’s swimming and diving team is in 10th place after the second day of competition at the 2012 NCAA Championships, hosted by Auburn, Friday. Overall the Sun Devils recorded four top-10 finishes on the day for a team total of 99 points.
Ejdervik, the reigning three-time Pac-12 Champion in the 100 breast, finished third nationally in the event with a season-best time of 59.18. Ejdervik’s time is also the second-best time in school history, behind her own record of 58.90 set last season at the conference championships.
Junior Caroline Kuczynski took eighth overall in the 100 fly with a time of 52.52, tying her how record set in 2011 for the third fastest time in Arizona State history. Junior Shannon Landgrebe finished seventh in the 200 free with a time of 1:44.62, just one one-hundredths of a second off her season-best and school record time set at the Pac-12 Championships.
Hitting a career mark for the second-straight day, senior Elina Eggers finished sixth in the women’s 3-meter springboard with a score of 341.10, the highest finish of her career.
Arizona State also had a successful night in the relay events. The ASU 200 medley relay of senior Kelli Kyle, Ejdervik, Kuczynski and Landgrebe finished in 11th place with a time of 1:37.99. The ASU 800 free relay of Landgrebe, Cassie Morrice, Tristin Baxter and Mattie Kukors took 13th with a time of 7:07.93.
The final day of the NCAA Championships concludes tomorrow in Auburn, Ala.
