Alexandra Elston Named Recipient of NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

March 30, 2011

TEMPE, Ariz. - Former Arizona State University soccer player Alexandra Elston was one of 58 student-athletes from around the country to be awarded a $7,500 NCAA postgraduate scholarship, according to recent announcement by the NCAA.

Elston, who last season was named a NSCAA Women's College Scholar Third-Team All-America in addition to earning First-Team Pac-10 All-Academic honors for the third consecutive season, currently maintains a 3.91 GPA (speech and hearing major).

"It is an honor to be recognized by the NCAA and receive a postgraduate scholarship" said Elston. "I have worked hard at ASU to do well in class and to maintain good grades while playing soccer. For the NCAA to be able to recognize my accomplishments and hard work over the past four years is very rewarding. I am very thankful for the postgraduate scholarship."

On the field, Elston was named second-team All-Pac-10 in 2010 following a season in which she finished second on the team in points (12), goals (5) and game-winning goals (2). Elston, who started every one of ASU's 80 contests the last four seasons, concluded her career ninth on the school's all-time list in both career points (48) and goals (18) and fifth in career game winning goals (8).

To qualify for an NCAA postgraduate scholarship, student-athletes must excel academically and athletically, be in their final year of eligibility and plan to pursue graduate study. Student-athletes must also maintain at least a 3.2 grade-point average and be nominated by their institution's faculty athletics representative.

Created in 1964, NCAA postgraduate scholarships promote and encourage education by rewarding the Association's most accomplished student-athletes.
