TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State University women's basketball head coach Charli Turner Thorne will hold three basketball camps on the ASU campus this summer.
Turner Thorne, who has led ASU to 11 consecutive postseason appearances, and her coaching staff will direct three camps, starting with a team camp June 4-6. The team camp will offer separate divisions this year: a varsity/large school division and a junior varsity/small school division. It is geared toward high school teams (grades 9-12) interested in the opportunity to work on team skills in game situations. Teams will participate in games and a clinic conducted by Turner Thorne. Eligible teams must have a coach and a minimum of eight players. Team camp will offer two divisions of play based on skill level and the number of participants. Each team will play at least seven games. Following pool play a tournament will be held.
An individual camp for players in grades 5-12 will be held June 7-10. This camp is geared toward players interested in playing at the next level with special attention spent on improving strengths and weaknesses in addition to individual offensive moves and defensive strategies. Players will be taught and drilled everyday in the skills of shooting, one-on-one moves, position work, passing, ball handling, rebounding and much more. Various competitions and contests will also be held throughout the week. Day camp will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.
Turner Thorne's final camp will be a day camp for players in grades 2-8, which runs from June 28-July 1. It will feature instruction on basketball fundamentals and on improving already developed skills. Campers will be divided into groups based on age and ability. Day camp runs from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. daily with extended supervision available from 3-5 p.m. for an extra $40 for the week. Lunch will be available for purchase or bag lunches can be brought from home.
All camps will be run by ASU women's basketball coaches (Turner Thorne, associate head coaches Joseph Anders and Meg Sanders and assistant coach Laura Hughes) and players and will take place on campus.
