Women's Swimming Finishes Strong at Arena Invitational

LONG BEACH, Calif.--The Arizona State women's swimming finished strong on the final day of the Arena Invitational hosted by UC San Diego. The Sun Devils closed in on a third-place finish edging out San Diego State with a total score of 693.5. Stanford ran away with the meet with a first-place score of 1641.

Freshman Tristin Baxter had a strong showing on the third day taking second in the 1650 free finals with an NCAA B-Cut time of 16:14.39.  Baxter also recorded another NCAA B-Cut time of 1:59.16 in the 200 fly to finish in sixth.

The ASU `A' relay of Shannon Landgrebe, Cassie Morrice, Caroline Kuczynski and Katie Haron touched in third in the 400 free relay recording an NCAA B-Cut time of

Junior Rebecca Ejdervik, who helped set two meet records on Friday, finished in sixth place in the 200 breast finals with an NCAA B-Cut time of 2:14.79. Junior Jordyn Green finished the 200 breast in ninth place with an NCAA B-Cut time of 2:13.21 in the consolation round.

Freshman Kallie Golden finished 14th overall in the 200 back touching in at 2:00.50. Sophomore Shannon Landgrebe took the top spot in the consolation round of the 100 free, recording a time of 50.40 for ninth overall. Sophomore Caroline Kuczynski also lead the consolation round, recording an NCAA B-Cut time of 1:59.79.

On the men's side, the ASU men's `A' relay comprised of junior Jesper Akesson, senior Nolan Ruane, senior James Rigg, and sophomore Herbie Behn finished in ninth place in the men's 400 free relay. The quartet recorded a time of 3:05.32.

Freshman Hayden Thomas finished in 12th place in the 1650 free recording a time of 15:58.75. Freshman Ryan Glander and Akesson finished 14th and 16th, respectively, in the 200 back consolation round. Glander finished with a time of 1:51.87, while Akesson was one second off with a time of 1:52.88. Junior Yutaro Yamashita finished in 11th place in the 200 fly with a time of 151.40.

Overall, the men's team finished in eighth place for the meet with Stanford once again running away with the meet title. The Cardinal scored a dominant 1442.5 for first place.

Next up, the Sun Devil women host NAU on Saturday, Dec. 18 at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center.
