LOS ANGELES, Calif.—The Arizona State men’s swimming and diving team was running on all cylinders as they topped the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunners, 162-127 in a dual meet hosted by UCLA.

Competing in its first dual match of the season, the women’s swimming and diving team fell in a closely contested match-up with the 24th ranked Bruins, 132-168. Several of the women’s swimmers met the zone B qualifying time, including sophomore Shannon Landgrebe who finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:49:12.

In diving, freshman Hailey Casper won the women’s 3-meter diving with an overall score of 317.70, while junior All-American Elina Eggers won the 1-meter diving with a score of 288.45.

The ASU men took home the top spot in seven events with freshman Hayden Thomas once again excelling in the distance free. Thomas, who once again won the 500 free, also finished first in the 1000 free by over three seconds.

The men’s diving team cruised, facing no competition. Riley McCormick dove lights out, on the 3-meter dive, scoring a 384.98 overall.

The Sun Devil men were also dominant in the 200 Medley relay, finishing in both first and second place. The young team, which has 14 freshmen on its roster, faces a tough test against USC tomorrow.
