The Arizona State swimming and diving team stand in fifth after day two of the Pac-10 Championships, held at the Belmont Plaza Olympic Pool in Long Beach, Calif. With 120.5 points, the Sun Devils maintained their fifth place spot for the second consecutive day.
The Sun Devils saw success in the 50 free. Mohammed Madwa moved up to fourth all-time as he sprinted to a new career-best 19.75, shattering his previous time set earlier in the day. Tony Cisneros etched his name at ninth in the ASU record-book with a 20.01 finish. Both times were NCAA consideration times.
In the 500 free, Adrian Kirkpatrick took first in the bonus final. The sophomore clocked in at 4:25.44, a personal best. Yutaro Yamashita touched the wall at 4:26.74 to set his own career-best. Anthony Calenti and Luke Herlehy both raced in the bonus final, finishing in 4:30.59 and 4:34.20 respectively.
Max Laney earned a career-best in the 200 IM with a time of 1:50.31. The Sun Devils ended the meet with the 200 free relay. The team of Cisneros, Madwa, Vinicius Waked and Sean Boyle clocked in an NCAA "B" standard time of 1:18.90. The Sun Devils finished fifth in the contest.
The 2009 Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships continue through tomorrow.
