The Arizona State men's swimming and diving team began competition today at the Dallas Morning News Classic. The team is currently in fifth with 111 points.
Senior All-American diver Micky Benedetti easily won the 1-meter. The tri-Pac-10 Champ scored over 70 points above the second place finisher, compiling 387.40. Sean Boyle clocked in a time of 1:38.27 to place third in the "A" Championship final of the 200 free. His fellow senior, Vinicius Waked hit the wall at 1:38.05 but ended up placing ninth due to the fact he was in the "B" Consolation Final. Boyle earned a time of 48.51 in the 100 fly to place fourth.
Yesterday the team competed in a dual against SMU. The Sun Devils fell 136-94 in the effort. Freshman Yutaro Yamashita earned a lifetime best in the 1,000 free with a time of 9.29.03 to place second. Yamashita went on to win the 500 free, clocking in at 4:39.55.
Benedetti, in his first appearance of 2009, swept the diving events. He earned 408.98 in the 3-meter and 366.52 in the 1-meter.
