No. 4 Women's Golf Sets Out for NCAA West Regional Championship

The fourth-ranked Arizona State women's golf team sets out for the NCAA West Regional Championship, held May 8-10 at the Lincoln Hills Golf Course in Lincoln, Calif. The Sun Devils enter the regional as a second seed in the regional, hosted by Sacramento State.

The lineup for the Sun Devils features junior All-American Azahara Munoz, sophomore All-American Anna Nordqvist, junior All-American Jennifer Osborn, sophomore Juliana Murcia and sophomore Liisa Kelo. Munoz and Nordqvist are ranked fifth and fourth nationally by Golfweek.

The field for the West Regional features: No. 2 Southern California, No. 4 Arizona State, No. 8 Arkansas, No. 13 Arizona, No. 11 Oklahoma State, No. 18 California, No. 20 Michigan State, No. 24 Stanford, BYU, Tulsa, North Carolina, Ohio State, San Jose State, Oklahoma, Oregon, UNLV, UC Davis, UC Irvine, Fresno State, Oral Roberts and Portland State.

The top eight teams and two individuals from each regional will qualify for the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship to be held May 20-23 at the UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.

The Sun Devils are coming off a third place finish at the Pac-10 Championships. Three Sun Devils placed in the top ten as Nordqvist placed second, Munoz finished seventh and Murcia placed ninth overall.

Last season, the Sun Devils finished third at the West Regional in St. George, Utah to qualify for their 16th straight trip to the NCAA Championships.
