This Week
The top-ranked Sun Devil Softball (39-2, 3-0 Pac-10) squad will
hit the road for only the fourth time this weekend as they head to Oregon
to continue their 2008 Pac-10 schedule against the University of
Oregon Ducks and the Oregon State Beavers. The Sun Devils will face
the Ducks Friday, April 4 at 4 p.m. in Eugene and the Beavers on Saturday
April 5 at 1 p.m. and again on Sunday, April 6 at noon. All times are
Paci
fic.Last Time Out:
Last weekend saw the Sun Devils hit the road for their Pac-10
season opener as they came out bats and arms blazing in the Bay Area,
accumulating their
first Pac-10 opening series sweep since 2003.
In their
fi rst match-up against the 23rd-ranked Cal Golden
Bears, the Sun Devils bounced back from an 2-0 de
fi cit to rattle off a
4-2 win with two home runs, one from Katie Crabb with a two-run shot
and Caylyn Carlson hitting a solo shot.
Against the
fifth-ranked Cardinal, the Sun Devils had no issues
taking the
first game 6-0, with Katie Crabb again hitting a two run shot
to lead the Devils along with Kristen Miller and Krista Donnenwirth both
going deep.
The last game of the weekend proved to be a gritty one for the
Sun Devils as Stanford hurled their ace, Missy Penna at them with a
Pac-10 leading 21-3 record. Megan Elliott took the circle for the Sun
Devils were she was lights out through over nine innings, pitching phenomenally.
Katie Burkhart entered the game where she three 3.2 innings
and took the win in the 13th inning as Jackie Vasquez launched
her second home run of the season with a 3-run shot to center
fi eld to
push ASU ahead for good.
With the sweep last weekend Clint Myers continues on his tradition
of never having lost a series to Stanford in his career.
