Sun Devil Lester Places Second at FILA Junior World Team Trials

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Kenny Lester and Chris Drouin, members of the Arizona State University wrestling program, recently competed in the FILA Junior World Team Trials inside the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., (May 25-26). Both wrestlers, who used redshirt seasons last year with the Sun Devils, competed in the freestyle portion of the trials while Lester also took part in the Greco-Roman tournament.

Lester was the runner-up at 120kg in Greco-Roman as he went 2-0 in the challenge tournament before falling to Erk Nye (unattached) in the best 2-of-3 final series. Lester opened the day with a 3-0, 3-0 defeat of Ben Berhow (Minnesota Storm) before advancing to the challenge final where he defeated Jack Danilkoweicz (Cavalier WC), 2-1, 6-0. In the final series, Nye downed Lester in both bouts, scoring a 6-0, 4-0 decision in bout one before taking the second with a fall, 3-0, 1:31.

In freestyle, both men went 1-2 in their respective weight classes. Lester opened with another loss to Nye, this time 5-0, 2-0, before winning a battle of Lesters in the consolation bracket as the Sun Devil took a 2-1, 0-2, 4-1 decision over Kevin Lester (Lion WC). ASU's Lester was bounced from the tournament with a 2-0, 7-0 loss to Barhow.

Drouin, competing at 66kg, opened his day with a 2-0, 3-0 victory over Seth Flodeen (Minnesota Storm) before dropping a technical fall loss (7-0, 7-0) to eventual champion Bubba Jenkins (Penn State) in the quarterfinals. In the consolation draw, Drouin was bounced from the tournament with a 5-1, 3-3 loss to Mark Beaudry (Michigan).
