COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Two members of the Arizona State University wrestling team are currently in Colorado Springs, Colo., this weekend as they are set to compete in the FILA Junior World Team Trials being conducted at the U.S. OIympic Training Center Friday and Saturday. Both Todd Schavrien (60kg/132) and Kenny Lester (120kg/264) will compete in the freestyle event while Lester will double and also compete in the Greco-Roman trials.
The Sun Devil duo, both of which redshirted their true freshman campaigns last year, will look to win their respective weight classes in order to meet the champion from the U.S. FILA Junior Nationals that were held in April in a challenge series. The winner of the best of three series will earn the right to represent the U.S. at the FILA Junior World Championships that are set for August 21-26 in Beijing, China.
The weight classes are divided among two days of competition with each weight class holding a one-day event. Lester will compete in freestyle on Friday while both men will compete on Saturday with Schavrien in the freestyle and Lester in Greco-Roman.
