As the first day of action concluded at the 2007 NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships inside the in , , No. 21 Arizona State University showcased four athletes during the day's competitions, led by Micky Benedetti advancing to the one-meter diving consolation finals.
Benedetti, recently named February's Pac-10 Diver of the Month and the Pac-10 Conference three-meter and platform diving champion, placed 13th overall in the one-meter finals, recording a score of 332.55. In the preliminary round, the , native totaled a score of 313.15, enabling him to advance to the event's consolation finals round and put the Sun Devils on the scoreboard.
Also competing for ASU during day one were junior CJ Nuess, placing 35th in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:25.67, while junior Lucas Azevedo also competed in the event, placing 42nd with a preliminary round time of 4:27.66.
Sophomore Gal Nevo, competing in his second NCAA Championships in as many years at ASU, swam in the 200 individual medley preliminary round, placing 39th with a time of 1:49.62.
Overall, the Sun Devils rank 24th in the standings after day one, with great expectations for the remaining two days of the event.
ASU will look to improve its score on day two, as competing for the Sun Devils Friday are Nevo and Nuess in the 400 IM, Azevedo in the 200 freestyle, freshman Ante Cvitkovic in the 100 backstroke, while Benedetti will compete in three-meter diving.
